About This Position
-Job Summary: The Special Education Teacher will coordinate and provide Developmentally appropriate educational services utilizing a written Individual Family service plan (IFSP). All strategies and goals already documented in the plan. Our services extend into Essex, Passaic, Sussex, Middlesex, and Union.
-Supervisory Responsibilities: Directs, monitors, teaches using parent/caregiver friendly strategies to work with children 0-3 years old with Developmental Disabilities. -Duties/Responsibilities: Performs re-assessments , observations and documentation to determine the areas in which each child may need extra or modified educational services to meet their developmental milestones. Assessments in the following Developmental areas to include Cognitive, Self Help, Communication, Fine Motor, Gross Motor and Social Emotional . Identifies the child's and family needs and develops related strategies to assist with achieving their outcomes and goals. Assist with developing activities that support all identified areas for developmental improvements or an integrated plan while working and collaborating with a team of other specialists , e.g. speech therapist, Occupational therapist , Physical therapist , Social worker etc. Develops individualized Family Service plans for each child, while setting learning goals and adopting modifications as necessary; ensures each child's activities and strategies are planned and organized according to his/her developmental abilities. Develops and teaches lessons that provide engaging learning opportunities for each individual child and family. As per IFSP Complete progress summary every 6 months, ongoing assessments, and continually tracks progress and makes modifications as necessary. Develops, completes, and maintains all paperwork mandated by the Early Intervention System (EIS). Maintains knowledge of special education teaching methods, evidence based practice and best practices through professional development courses provided by EIS Celebrates the achievements and successes of students. Performs other related duties as assigned. -Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor with all children ages 0-3 years old . Thorough understanding of various special education needs and services. Thorough understanding of and the ability to implement a variety of effective teaching methods. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Must have ability to travel to each child's home or daycare. -Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Special Education required; Masters degree preferred. Appropriate state license or certification required. Two years of experience is highly preferred. -Physical Requirements: Driving to each family's and child's home or daycare within 10-15 mins Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day. Basic knowledge of computers to complete necessary paperwork in the state database.
