Job Overview:
The Vice President of Operations oversees the operations of designated departments and is responsible for managing the performance of Assistant Directors, Directors, and other direct reports. This role functions as a strategic business partner and service delivery team leader for assigned departments, providing proactive, professional support, guidance, and advice. The Vice President of Operations develops, implements, and leads significant programs and processes, with a strong focus on life safety and support services. This position is responsible for building strong business partnerships with hospital leadership and collaborating across all departments to drive positive operational and safety outcomes. The Vice President of Operations serves as the hospital Safety Officer, chairs designated hospital committees, and ensures that the divisions of safety, support services, and operations remain compliant with all applicable policies, laws, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required
- 10+ years of job-related experience
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations
Essential Functions:
Standards and Regulatory Readiness
- Ensures excellence in safety and supports the delivery of safe patient care by establishing and integrating safety standards and operational practices across all areas of responsibility.
- Assists in the development of hospital-wide safety programs, including policies and procedures that define how patient and employee safety needs are assessed, evaluated, and met.
- Ensures continuous development and refinement of regulatory standards and works collaboratively with professional disciplines to optimize operational efficiency and safety.
- Maintains compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations to support a safe, professional healthcare environment.
Leadership
- Supports the institution’s mission, vision, and values by participating in the development and implementation of hospital-wide plans related to safety and operational effectiveness.
- Applies advanced knowledge and decision-making skills related to facilities, life safety, emergency management, environment of care, and performance improvement.
- Develops and achieves fiscally responsible operational objectives aligned with strategic priorities by working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and safety-focused teams, including support services, life safety, plant operations and engineering, emergency management, security, and other assigned areas.
- Manages and directs assigned departments to ensure high-quality patient care through continuous safety improvement.
Safety Program Development and Oversight
- Leads the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive safety programs that support patient, employee, and visitor safety.
- Ensures effective coordination of life safety, emergency management, and environment of care programs across the organization.
- Serves as Safety Officer and chairs or participates in designated hospital committees to ensure alignment with regulatory standards, organizational priorities, and best practices.
Operational Excellence, Performance Improvement, and Accountability
- Drives operational excellence through the use of performance metrics, data analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Establishes clear performance expectations and holds leaders accountable for outcomes related to safety, service delivery, regulatory compliance, and fiscal stewardship.
- Leads and supports performance improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reliability, and patient experience across assigned departments.
- Partners with finance, quality, and operational leaders to ensure effective resource utilization aligned with organizational priorities. Promotes a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous learning.
