About This Position
API International is a family business that was established in Portland, Oregon in 1979. We are a manufacturer and engineering solutions provider that specializes in flanges, expansion joints, valves, other pipe fittings, and custom-fabricated parts for the Agriculture, Exhaust, HVAC, and Water Works markets. The Inside Sales Representative plays a critical role in supporting API's mission by driving revenue growth through new customer acquisition, account development, and strong customer support. Working closely with an assigned Regional Manager (RM), this position helps achieve regional sales goals by identifying and pre-qualifying target accounts, assessing customer needs, preparing quotes and proposals, determining pricing, and responding to RFQs, technical inquiries, and customer service requests. This role offers the opportunity to develop into an outside sales position as the business grows.
Position also includes a dynamic commission structure that provides additional compensation based on sales performance and success, as outlined by the applicable commission plan.
A typical day:
- Manage and grow existing customer relationships to help achieve sales goals.
- Identify and pursue new account opportunities within the assigned region.
- Prepare quotes and proposals that align with customer requirements.
- Process orders, track shipment timelines, and expedite when needed.
- Maintain accurate customer records and manage opportunity pipeline activity.
- Promote the full company product line and OEM capabilities to customers.
- Participate in internal meetings and training to expand product and industry knowledge.
- Provide market insights and competitive feedback to company leadership.
The ideal candidate requires the following:
- Minimum 5 years of B2B sales experience in a manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Positive, can-do attitude with a strong focus on customer service.
- Team player who collaborates effectively with colleagues and leadership.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn and utilize ERP and CRM systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
We highly prefer the following:
- Bachelor's degree in business, science, technology, or related field.
- Knowledge of pipe, valves, and fittings.
