Your Opportunity + Impact
The Survey Party Chief is responsible for coordinating, directing, and overseeing survey crews to ensure that field surveys are executed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This role manages daily field operations, supervises Survey Technicians, and ensures delivery is completed within project timelines, quality standards, and budgetary constraints. The Survey Party Chief leads the performance of boundaries, ALTA, topographic, existing conditions, right-of-way, transmission line, transportation, construction, and other geospatial survey assignments, utilizing advanced surveying, data acquisition, and mapping technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads and oversees field survey operations, ensuring accurate data collection using GPS, Total Stations, levels, laser scanners, UAVs/drones, and data collectors.
- Interprets, communicates, and executes project requirements for boundary, ALTA, topographic, construction, and other survey types.
- Develops and implements field plans to complete projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Ensures crew compliance with safety protocols, proper equipment use, vehicle operation, and public safety requirements.
- Supervises, mentors, and trains Survey Technicians, providing clear task assignments and technical guidance.
- Conducts field checks, maintains accurate field notes, sketches, photographs, and daily logs to document conditions and findings.
- Performs records research and incorporates findings into field operations as needed.
- Troubleshoots and resolves equipment issues promptly; oversees regular maintenance and calibration of survey instruments.
- Coordinates with Fleet Management to ensure vehicles are stocked, maintained, and in safe working conditions.
Education and Experience
- Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Technology or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years’ of job-related experience.
- Licensure/Certifications: Surveyor in Training (SIT) certificate preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in CAD (Autodesk, Bentley Systems), GIS (ESRI ArcGIS), and other related software programs.
- Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within the field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
- Ability to work in rugged outdoor conditions, including extreme weather, remote locations, and challenging terrain.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, and other external sources.
