Job Summary
The Responsible Adult will provide programs that support young children in Nak’azdli Whut’en and surrounding communities through developmentally appropriate activities. The Responsible Adult will also assist Early Childhood Education (ECE) Workers and ECE Assistants in delivering a quality program for young children in a group setting.
This program will support and enhance each child’s physical, social, emotional, creative, and cognitive development.
The Responsible Adult will be an active member of the Nak’azdli Whut’en Childcare Centre team and will work collaboratively with staff in a mutually respectful environment, contributing to a positive and supportive workplace while ensuring the well-being and growth of the children in care.
Main Responsibilities
Program & Childcare
- Help plan and run activities appropriate for young children.
- Balance active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and group/individual activities.
- Follow a daily schedule for learning, play, meals, and transitions.
- Supervise children to ensure safety.
- Encourage self-help skills (manners, motor skills, language).
Daily Operations
- Set up and clean activity spaces and materials.
- Help maintain sanitation and cleaning schedules (toys, tables, blankets, etc.).
- Check outdoor areas for garbage or hazards every morning.
- Record attendance and events.
Communication & Administration
- Communicate with parents and family members daily.
- Attend staff meetings and training.
- Maintain confidentiality about children and families.
- Fill out incident/injury reports if needed.
- Use HiMama for sign-in/out and documentation.
Cultural Awareness
- Respect traditional and contemporary First Nations approaches to child-rearing.
- Knowledge of the Nak’azdli community and culture is preferred.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred, not always required)
- Responsible Adult Certificate (preferred or willing to take)
- ECEA (Early Childhood Educator Assistant) Certificate, preferred
- First Aid (preferred, or willing to take)
- Food Safe (preferred, or willing to take)
- WHMIS (preferred, or willing to take)
- Up-to-date immunizations
- Good communication skills.
- Reliability and positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a team environment
Working Conditions
- Physical activity (playing with kids, cleaning, moving equipment)
- Computer use
- Attending meetings or workshops
Hours of Work
Hours of work will be from Monday to Friday, up to 35 hours per week, may be required to work flexible hours, some overtime may be required (any overtime must be pre-approved). Schedule will be given to you by the Daycare Manager.
