About This Position

The Virginia Talent Accelerator’s Director, Technical Training Services role offers an exciting opportunity to work with some of the world’s most prestigious companies on multiple projects as they deploy leading edge technologies at their new or expanding Virginia locations. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Director to join our team.

The successful candidate has experience providing training solutions for a variety of industry sectors that produce measurable results in both training effectiveness and client satisfaction. This role offers a unique opportunity to interface with client companies primarily advanced manufacturing, technology, and corporate headquarters to lead the design and delivery of customized services aligned to their unique jobs, processes, equipment, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to a team of talented learning and development professionals who develop and facilitate high-quality customized training.
  • Fosters an environment that provides direct reports the autonomy to try new and creative tactics while resisting a “one-size fits all” approach to client needs. Actively listens to the needs of the team and its team members to enhance the established culture that celebrates individuality, encourages professional development, and welcomes creative dialogue.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team, supports the development and refinement of internal workflows, client deliverables, and innovative solutions.
  • Leads project kick-off meetings and builds partnerships with the client’s leadership team to ensure all deliverables are highly valued and proactively address potential shifts within the project lifecycle.
  • Decides and determines the appropriate training media, learning methodologies, and scope for training deliverables ensuring they are proportionate with the project’s parameters.
  • Manages scope adjustments and change requests that may be required due to unforeseen changes in client job creation commitments.
  • Reviews training materials, classroom facilitation methods, and provides feedback ensuring services meet or exceed the established quality standards for the program.
  • Engages with partners to identify opportunities and to leverage their resources and services into the project to optimize near and long-term support for the company.
  • Supports other divisions within VEDP, such as Business Investment and Marketing and Communications, with Talent Accelerator Program presentations and presentations related to new business opportunities.

  • Comfortable with regional, domestic, and occasional international travel
  • Experience required:

  • Extensive experience designing, developing, and facilitating training for technician level roles typically found in an advanced manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience incorporating hand-on activities and digital technologies into training deliverables
  • Relationship building in a client facing capacity with both internal and external teams
  • Effective communicator with both external/internal constituents and cross-functional teams
  • Extensive experience of performing transactional tasks related to team management
  • Support of organization-wide efforts
  • Experience desired:

  • 5 years leading a team of 6 or more direct reports
  • Proven track record of leadership committed to team member growth and success
  • 5 years’ experience guiding the design and development of customized training
  • Experience developing training using Articulate
  • 3 years’ experience delivering instructor-led facilitation
  • Division/department management, resource allocation, and project delegation
  • Substantial private-sector experience working in and/or with large, multinational firm(s)
  • Global business acumen with a history of cultural awareness
  • Experience in economic development
