What We Are Looking For
The Director of Marketing Strategy is responsible for driving the strategic direction of the marketing function, ensuring all initiatives are aligned with business objectives, brand positioning, and distribution priorities. This role serves as the connective tissue across marketing, bringing cohesion to product marketing, channel marketing, content, and digital efforts. By translating business goals into clear marketing strategies, the Director ensures consistent messaging, strong brand integrity, and purposeful execution across all campaigns and communications. The role also acts as a steward of the brand, guiding tone, positioning, and narrative to ensure a unified and differentiated presence in the market.
In addition to strategic planning, the Director of Marketing Strategy leads high-impact, cross-functional initiatives and special projects, often supporting executive priorities and emerging opportunities. This includes overseeing thought leadership efforts, shaping content strategy, and managing corporate sponsorships and partnerships to enhance brand visibility and credibility. Ultimately, the Director elevates marketing from a set of activities to a coordinated, insight-driven function that supports growth, strengthens the brand, and delivers measurable impact. This role reports to the VP, Marketing is required to be onsite at our Durham office 3 days a week.
What You Will Do
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Thinking & Direction: The Architech
- Translate business goals into marketing strategy (sales, distribution, growth)
- Define priorities across campaigns, channels, and initiatives
- Identify opportunities (new markets, audiences)
- Ensure all marketing work ties back to clear objectives
- Understand and evolve brand voice, tone, and positioning, ensuring consistency across product, channel, and delivery methods
Project Cohesion & Alignment: The Integrator
- Be the point of connection for product, channel, content, digital, and distribution
- Create shared priorities and visibility across initiatives, ensuring the absense of silos
- Facilitate planning sessions and alignment meetings
Project & Initiative Leadership: The Project Owner
- Lead high-inpact, cross-functional initiatives, including product & index rollouts, brand campaigns, and major content programs
- Ensure projects stay aligned to strategy, maintain quality/consistency, and deliver business impact
Special Projects & Executive Priorities: The Problem-Solver
- Take on high-visibility or undefined initiatives, such as new partnerships, strategic positioning, competitive intelligence, etc
- Transform ambiguous ideas into structured plans
Thought Leadership & Content Strategy: The Voice
- Define themes for market commentary, advisor education, & retirement insights
- Guide creation of white papers, articles, & executive POV content
- Ensure content supports sales conversations and brand credibility
Corporate Sponsorships & Partnerships: The Amplifier
- Evaluate and manage sponsorship opportunities, ensuring they are tied to brand positioning and target audiences
- Activate and amplify sponsorships through content, events, & campaigns, not simply logo placements

Requirements:What We Require
- 8+ years of related professional experience with a mix of strategy, brand, and campaign execution
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple marketing functions
- Proven ability to translate business objectives into actionable marketing strategies
- Ability to think at both enterprise and campaign level
- Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority
- Strong stakeholder management and alignment skills
- Ability to leave cross-functional projects from concept through execution
- Exceptional interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills
- Comfort operating at a 30,000 foot view as well as down in the details
- Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Calm under pressure, decisive in the moment, and energized by building something amazing
