About This Position
JOB SUMMARY The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, mid-level providers, and other clinical staff in providing medical services to patients with provider delegation within scope of practice.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
Maintains efficient clinic workflow.
Assesses client for education needs.
Teaches in collaboration with the primary care provider:
o Client and family regarding health promotion.
o Illness management including disease process.
o Medications, prevention and recognition of complications and self-care.
Functions within limit and scope of Nurse Practice Act.
o Performs designated laboratory procedures according to training & protocols.
o Assists primary care provider with medical and surgical procedures.
o Performs skilled nursing as directed by the medical and surgical procedures.
o Provides direct patient care: blood draws, medication administration, immunizations, injections and other related patient care.
Listens to clients and families and offers reassurance and emotional support.
Respects dignity of client and maintains confidentiality of records and verbal communications.
Provides telephone triage: relays medication orders to pharmacists, facilitates referrals, and uses assessment skills and clinic protocols to respond to medical questions from clients.
Maintains accurate patient records. Records care and teaching provided; assessment of client response and / or understanding.
Maintains health and safety standards within the clinic environment, including quality control, infection control, management of hazardous materials and security.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Graduate of an accredited NP or ARNP program.
Training and Experience
One (1) year experience as an NP preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Active WA State RN & NP License required.
Current AHA BLS certification required.
Active unrestricted DEA license required.
Physician Assistant – Certified (PA-C) candidates must have successfully completed a program from one of the following accreditation organizations: Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant, Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, or Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation and successful completion of the national examination given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
