About This Position

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Litigation Paralegal provides operational support to the Legal Department in matters involving subpoenas, claims management, contract management, as well as projects and legal research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list may not include all the duties that may be assigned.

  1. Prepare legal correspondence directed to third-party administrator/claims manager, outside defense counsel, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Responsible for litigation support by assisting with document collection, review, and production; coordinating discovery responses; and preparing draft response to interrogatories, subpoenas, and other discovery requests.
  3. Coordinate and schedule meetings with internal staff, outside counsel, and/or third-party administrator as needed.
  4. Create, organize, and maintain shared files of the Legal and Risk Management Departments, ensuring documents are accurate, complete, and properly indexed in accordance with departmental standards.
  5. Review, analyze, and interpret documents and information related to potential compensatory events (PCEs), and assist attorneys with issue identification and factual summaries.
  6. Coordinate and support responses to subpoenas and other legal requests, working closely with Risk Management, internal departments, and external parties to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
  7. Support Legal Department needs related to contract management system program.
  8. Support Legal Department needs related to vendor set-up and management.
  9. Provide administrative and project support on ongoing legal initiatives as directed by attorneys, ensuring deadlines, deliverables, and objectives are met.
  10. Conduct basic legal research and compile information as requested by attorneys to support legal analysis and decision-making.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by attorneys in the Legal Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Associates and/or Paralegal Certification required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a paralegal with contract management experience required

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

  • CLA/Paralegal Certification and/or equivalent Degree preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Prior healthcare experience preferred
  • Ability to take initiative in carrying out routine assignments covered by established procedures and consult with attorneys when non-routine or complex issues arise
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology, legal principles, and litigation support practices.
  • Knowledge of claims handling process
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, while also functioning effectively in an independent, self-directed manner
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and communicate work progress and emerging issues to Legal Department attorneys
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Advance level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Vizio and other Windows-based applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, professional correspondence and documentation
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, responding to multiple requests with a strong sense of urgency
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally and effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and across departments
