Education DirectorLocation: Futures School – ConnecticutStatus: Full-Time, ExemptReports To: Vice President of Educational and Clinical ProgramsAbout Futures SchoolFutures School is a Connecticut State Department of Education–approved private special education program dedicated to empowering students with complex learning and developmental needs to achieve meaningful independence, lifelong learning, and successful post-school outcomes.As part of Futures Inc., our school integrates evidence-based instruction, therapeutic supports, vocational training, and transition planning within a highly individualized educational environment. We partner closely with families, sending districts, and state agencies to ensure every student receives programming that is compliant, compassionate, and outcome-driven.
Position OverviewThe Education Director serves as the lead educational administrator for Futures School and is responsible for the strategic leadership, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of all educational programming.This role ensures full adherence to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Connecticut General Statutes, and the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) Principles, Procedures, and Standards for Approved Private Special Education Programs.The Education Director provides executive oversight of:Instruction and curriculum implementationSpecial education and related servicesVocational and transition programmingStaff supervision and professional developmentIEP fidelity and complianceData-driven program evaluationCoordination with CSDE and sending school districtsThis position requires a highly credentialed educational leader with deep expertise in special education law, program administration, and multidisciplinary team leadership.Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related fieldRequired Connecticut Certification (Non-Negotiable)Intermediate Administration and Supervision (092)AND at least one of the following Connecticut endorsements:Comprehensive Special EducationSpecific disability area certificationPupil Personnel Services, including:Comprehensive Special EducationSpecific disability area certificationPupil Personnel Services, including:School Social Work School Psychological Services School Speech & Hearing Services School Guidance & Counseling School Health Services Preferred QualificationsLeadership experience in a CSDE-approved private special education programDirect experience with CSDE monitoring, approval, or corrective actionStrongexpertisein transition planning, vocational programming, and post-school outcomesExperience supervising multidisciplinary certified teamsDemonstrated ability to use student performance data to guide instruction and program improvementKey ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & Regulatory Complianceead all instructional, special education, and transition programmingEnsure compliance with IDEA, Connecticut statutes, and CSDE approval standardsServe as the primary educational liaison to CSDE, sending districts, and oversight agenciesStaff Supervision & Professional Developmentupervise, evaluate, and support certified and licensed staffEnsure ongoing credentialing, licensure, and complianceDesign and implement targeted professional developmentIEP Oversight & Student ServicesEnsure full and faithful implementation of all IEPsParticipate in or delegate PPT meeting representationAlign student placements withappropriate instructionaland service staffCurriculum, Instruction & Program EvaluationLead curriculum design, implementation, and evaluationEnsure alignment with state standards andevidence-based special education practicesMonitor outcomes using student progress, transition data, and post-school indicatorsScheduling, Operations & DocumentationOversee instructional scheduling aligned to IEP service deliveryCoordinate programming with related services and clinical supportsMaintain accurateeducational records, compliance documentation, and reportingWorking Conditions & Physical DemandsExtended periods of computer and administrative workAbility to communicate effectively in a fast-paced educational environmentMayoperateagency vehicles as neededMay berequiredto implement approved physical intervention proceduresWhat You’ll GainAt Futures, leadership is mission-driven.
