NextStar Energy (NSE) is Canada’s first large-scale battery manufacturing facility. Located in Windsor, Ontario, NextStar Energy is dedicated to the development and innovation of sustainable and efficient energy solutions, empowering the future of mobility.
The manufacturing facility is targeted to have an annual production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.
We are seeking a highly skilled Cell Inspection Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing inspection equipment within the lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing process. This role requires strong expertise in machine vision systems, image analysis, and inspection equipment optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Manage preventive maintenance (PM) activities for inspection machines, including planning, optimization, spare parts management, calibration, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
Analyze and quantify equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures to improve reliability.
Improve inspection machine accuracy and detection capability through effective use of inspection information management systems.
Support equipment expansion initiatives and evaluate, implement, and disseminate new technologies.
Review, develop, and manage inspection models, including planning for model updates and changes.
Establish, revise, and maintain PD manuals and equipment standards.
Provide technical support for equipment installation, maintenance, and upgrades based on operational or customer requirements.
Maintain documentation related to equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
Collaborate with vendors to resolve complex technical issues and evaluate alternative solutions.
Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment performance-related questions and concerns.
Work closely with engineers and production operators to troubleshoot equipment issues and maximize yield and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or related field) preferred.
Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related discipline considered an asset.
Strong MS Office–based reporting and presentation skills.
Strong computational, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and statistical analysis skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering or Science.
1+ year of experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the lithium-ion battery industry).
1+ year of experience with industrial machine vision systems, including line scan and area scan cameras, optics and lighting setup, troubleshooting and system management, and inspection software optimization.
1+ year of experience working with deep learning databases or vision-based AI systems.
1+ year of PLC experience.
