ACE HARDWARE LUMBER YARD ASSOCIATE JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary: A Greer's Ace Hardware Lumber Yard Associate supports daily yard operations by providing outstanding customer service, safely handling building materials, and maintaining an organized, efficient yard. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and essential to delivering the high level of service Greer's customers expect.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver “Helpful” Customer Service
- Greet every customer promptly and provide needed assistance
- Help customers select lumber, plywood, and building materials
- Safely and efficiently load materials into customer vehicles
- Anticipate customer needs and go the extra step to assist
- Represent Greer's values: friendly, knowledgeable, and dependable
- Assist customers in taking and pulling accurate lumber orders
- Properly ring up lumber orders
2. Yard Operations & Material Handling
- Receive, unload, and organize incoming deliveries of lumber and material
- Pull and stage customer orders accurately and efficiently
- Operate forklift and equipment safely (training/certification provided)
- Inspect materials for quality and report damage or shortages
3. Maintain a Clean, Organized Yard
- Keep yard, racks, and drive lanes clean, neat, and accessible
- Properly stack and store lumber to prevent damage and ensure safety
- Rotate inventory and protect materials from weather when needed
- Support store cleanliness and merchandising standards
4. Prioritize Safety
- Always follow all safety guidelines and procedures
- Use proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment
- Stay alert to moving vehicles, equipment, and changing conditions
- Report hazards, incidents, or maintenance needs immediately

- Ability to learn quickly and take direction
- Previous experience in lumber, construction, or retail is a plus—but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50–100 lbs. regularly
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, and varying weather conditions
