Performs highly responsible administrative and managerial duties assisting the City Manager in the administration of City government. |
Works with the City Manager in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing programs on matters affecting assigned areas of responsibility. |
Exercises initiative, discretion, and independent judgment within broad policy framework in carrying out policy interpretation. |
Assists in the formulation, direction and implementation of major policies and procedures. |
Advises the City Manager and department directors on areas of responsibility through oral or written reports. |
Meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; develops goals and priorities; monitors operations to identify and resolve problems. |
Represents the City and/or the City Manager in meetings, conferences, negotiations, and other functions; serves on various teams, committees, and work groups as assigned. |
Evaluates pending or actual actions of other governmental bodies as they may have an impact on the City. |
Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. |
Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints. |
Manages and supervises special projects and task forces. |
Serves as the Acting City Manager in the absence of the City Manager. |
Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. |
Performs other duties as assigned or required. |
- Excellent working knowledge of municipal governance and ability to apply general management principles.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials in local, state and federal government, and in the private sector.
- Demonstrated ability to select, develop, organize, motivate, and effectively utilize staff.
- Complete understanding of budgeting procedures and multi-funded financing operations.
- Ability to gather, compile, analyze, and evaluate a variety of data to make sound decisions regarding that data as it applies to providing services.
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to interpret and communicate to other rules, regulations, and guidelines. prepared by state and federal agencies on a variety of programs.
- Ability to recognize, evaluate, and respond adequately to a variety of policy issues faced by the city.
Master’s Degree in Public/Business Administration or equivalent field and five (5) years’ of progressively responsible municipal supervisory experience.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.
