Reports to: Energetic Materials Supervisor Work Location: Clear Lake, SD

Functional Area: Production Required Travel: None

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt Salary: $29.67 hr+ /DOE

Schedule: Friday through Sunday 6:00am to 6:30pm

Job Summary: The Energetic Materials Technician will blend and process pyrotechnic and explosive material for use in production.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Blends and processes pyrotechnic, primary and secondary explosive materials by reading, interpreting and following established procedures.

2. Takes inventory and records updates for items processed.

3. Fills and delivers containers of powders for production use.

4. Drives company vehicles as needed.

5. Moves energetic materials throughout the facility as directed.

6. Responsible for some hazardous waste management functions. Performs physical waste activities (e.g., moving containers, collecting samples, deactivating materials, etc.)

7. Assists others in the powder processing area as directed by supervisor.

8. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).

2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility.

3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.

4. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Three to six months related experience and/or training is preferred.

5. Obtain and maintain a driver’s license upon hire to drive company vehicles.

6. Knowledge of production processes is preferred.

7. Ability to read and understand procedures and follow specific written and verbal instructions.

8. Maintains a clean work area per Quality and Safety standards.

9. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.

10. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel; ability to learn and become proficient in our internal computer programs and applications.

11. Function Specific RCRA training upon hire.

12. Ability to work effectively with other employees as part of a team as well as ability to work independently to accomplish tasks using time management skills with minimal supervision.

13. Ability to multi-task in support of end-result/goal.

While performing the duties of this job:

1. Ability to talk and hear to communicate with others.

2. Seated work up to 20% of the workday.

3. Frequently required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.

4. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel as well as reach with hands and arms.

5. Lifting of 10 pounds is required. Must be able to move materials by lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds, and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.

6. Bending, squatting or kneeling is required to move materials.

7. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.

8. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and explosives.

9. To mitigate the risk of burn when working with powders, employees must wear a fire suit.

10. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.

11. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
