Guided by our values of Warmth, Wisdom, and Wellness, OceanView is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team.
Reporting to the Cash Manager, you'll play an important role in maintaining the financial health of our organization. This position offers the opportunity to work across many areas of accounting while partnering with talented professionals who are committed to excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Whether you're preparing financial statements, supporting audits, or helping departments make informed financial decisions, your work will directly contribute to the success of one of Maine's premier retirement communities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries.
- Assist with month-end close activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Process bank transfers and complete monthly bank reconciliations.
- Support bi-weekly payroll funding.
- Assist with accounts payable processing, payment approvals, and check preparation.
- Prepare account reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and variance analyses.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Process HUD replacement reserve requests and sales tax filings.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors.
- Prepare resale and new construction closing statements.
- Collaborate with teammates by providing backup support for Accounting Coordinators and the Payroll Coordinator during absences or vacations.
- Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned by the Director of Financial Operations.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism when handling financial information.
- Associate's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 1–3 years of accounting or finance experience required.
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial information, preferably in a multi-entity environment.
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience supporting external audits is preferred.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with accounting software; Yardi experience is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
This full-time position is typically scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility is occasionally required to meet month-end, year-end, and other financial reporting deadlines.
