About This Position
Expected hiring range: $29.57 - $32.60
- Maintains, repairs and improves facilities, grounds and related equipment.
a.Provides preventative maintenance for City buildings, facilities and grounds.
b.Loads and hauls materials for construction and disposal.
c.Installs and maintains facility equipment.
d.Prepares grounds for plantings using equipment and manual labor.
e.Lays sod and plants seed.
f.Maintain lawns, street borders, fields, and ditches, using heavy and/or light equipment.
g.Plants and maintains trees and shrubs.
h.Performs tree trimming including the operation of aerial equipment and chipping equipment.
i.Prepares and applies chemicals to turf, trees, shrubs and other plants.
- Supports the completion of City routine operations, maintenance, and repairs, along with special projects.
a.Performs semi-skilled repairs of furniture and equipment.
b.Monitors system controls and performs preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
c.Loads and transports personnel and materials to and from work sites.
d.Sets up public and meeting spaces in accordance with schedules and needs.
e.Provides custodial duties and repairs and performs flooring maintenance.
f.Performs troubleshooting of plumbing, electrical, and other building systems.
g.Provides labor and equipment operation for special projects or events.
h.Orders, delivers, and moves materials and furnishings.
i.Assists with installation and general repairs of irrigation, hoses, pumps, etc.
- Clears streets, drives, parking lots, sidewalks, and grounds.
a.Plows snow and repairs snow plowing damage.
b.Loads and applies sand and de-icing chemicals.
c.Removes and hauls snow and ice.
d.Sweeps trash, grit, and sediment.
e.Loads, hauls, and disposes of debris and litter.
- Assists in equipment maintenance.
a.Performs routine preventative maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
b.Assists in mechanical repairs to equipment.
c.Cleans and maintains work areas, storage areas, and tools.
- Assists in maintaining, attending to, and operating boilers and all appurtenances
- Participates in training and meetings.
- Assist in training other crew members.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year training or experience in parks, building or facilities maintenance.
- Valid Minnesota Class B Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.
- Possession of a Minnesota Boiler Operator’s License, or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification in Public Works Park Maintenance or related field.
- Possession of Pesticides/Herbicides Applicators License(s).
- Three years of experience in facility maintenance, HVAC, boiler operations, and system controls.
- Three years of experience in performing snowplow functions for a commercial or governmental agency.
- Three years of experience in construction including building construction, building trades, public works maintenance technology, forestry, parks and recreation, construction inspection, or related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of routine maintenance and repair tasks for light or small equipment.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of trucks, light equipment, motors, and machines.
- Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of tools used in a Public Works Department
- Ability to perform job responsibilities in all Minnesota weather including climatic extremes.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral instructions and written materials in English, such as operating manuals and safety instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work.
- Ability to work collaboratively, cooperatively, and positively in a team environment.
- Ability to work on-call outside of normal work hours and scheduled weekend work.
- Ability to handle a variety of assignments under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures.
- Ability to perform standard procedures and tasks using moderate analytical ability.
