Role Summary
The Swing Shift Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse and dock operations, and drivers, during assigned swing shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and holiday coverage as required. This role ensures freight is handled safely, efficiently, and accurately while maintaining productivity, customer service, and compliance with company policies and transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Cover for supervisors absences and operational absences
- Supervise daily dock and warehouse operations in an LTL environment.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound freight activities to ensure on-time loading and unloading.
- Monitor freight handling practices to reduce damages, shortages, and operational delays.
- Lead, coach, and support dock workers, forklift operators, and drivers during assigned shifts.
- Ensure all employees follow company safety procedures, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct shift start-up meetings, communicate operational priorities, and address workplace concerns.
- Monitor staffing levels and assist with scheduling to meet operational demands across multiple shifts.
- Investigate and document incidents, accidents, damages, and service failures.
- Complete operational reports, productivity tracking, and shift summaries.
- Work closely with dispatch, customer service, and management teams to maintain service standards.
- Ensure proper use and inspection of equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and dock equipment.
- Support employee training, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
- Assist with disciplinary processes and policy enforcement when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse environment.
- Respond to operational issues and provide after-hours leadership support as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Two years supervisory experience in transportation, warehousing, or LTL operations.
- Strong understanding of LTL freight handling, dock operations, and warehouse processes.
- Experience working in a fast-paced transportation or logistics environment.
- Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and transportation industry best practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to multitask and make decisions in a high-pressure environment.
- Proficient with computers and operational software systems such as Outlook, Excel, Word, AS400
- 2 years forklift experience.
- Previous experience shunting considered an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including rotating shifts, evenings, nights, and holidays.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
- Previous experience with dispatch/call center environment an asset

Working Conditions- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Overtime as required
- Lift and move freight of varying sizes and weights up to 50lbs., with or without mechanical assistance, while maintaining safe work practices.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, work in varying warehouse conditions, and handle the physical demands associated with loading and unloading freight.
- Required to operate a forklift, pallet jack, power jack, or shunt truck.
- Ability to respond quickly to operational issues on the dock floor, including physically assisting where required
