Job Description

Environmental Project Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Environmental Project Manager based in Canada.

The Environmental Project Manager will oversee environmental consulting projects focused on site assessment, reclamation, remediation, and monitoring (ARRM), helping clients address complex environmental challenges while meeting regulatory and operational requirements. Based in Alberta, with opportunities to work remotely within the province, you will manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while ensuring high standards of technical quality. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, hydrogeologists, soil scientists, ecologists, and other environmental professionals to develop practical, science-based solutions. The role offers opportunities to strengthen client relationships, coordinate with regulatory stakeholders, and contribute to projects that protect land, water, and surrounding communities. You will also support the professional development of junior colleagues while expanding your project management expertise. This is an opportunity to combine technical knowledge, leadership, and environmental responsibility in a collaborative consulting environment dedicated to meaningful, long-term impact.

Accountabilities:
  • Manage environmental projects: Coordinate and deliver straightforward to moderately complex site assessment, reclamation, remediation, and monitoring (ARRM) projects, ensuring that objectives, timelines, budgets, and quality expectations are met.
  • Oversee project planning and execution: Define project scopes, develop schedules, monitor budgets, allocate resources, and track progress to ensure successful delivery.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams: Collaborate with engineers, hydrogeologists, soil scientists, ecologists, and other technical specialists to develop integrated solutions tailored to project requirements.
  • Maintain client and stakeholder relationships: Communicate regularly with clients, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders to clarify expectations, provide updates, address concerns, and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Prepare technical documentation: Develop and review technical correspondence, project proposals, work plans, scopes of work, and cost estimates to support project planning and execution.
  • Ensure quality and compliance: Coordinate internal communication and technical collaboration to deliver accurate, reliable, and high-quality project outcomes aligned with applicable environmental standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support project teams: Contribute to a collaborative working environment by sharing technical knowledge, coordinating activities across disciplines, and helping resolve project challenges.
  • Mentor junior professionals: Provide technical guidance, share knowledge, and support the development of less experienced team members.
  • Promote continuous improvement: Participate in professional development opportunities, strengthen project management capabilities, and identify ways to improve project delivery and client service.
  • Follow health and safety procedures: Adhere to established safety requirements when conducting fieldwork, visiting project sites, or performing other operational duties.
Requirements:
  • Education: A technical diploma or degree in environmental science, project management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional experience: At least three years of project management experience within an environmental consulting environment.
  • Environmental project expertise: Experience managing site assessment, reclamation, remediation, and monitoring (ARRM) projects in Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan is considered an asset.
  • Project management capabilities: Demonstrated ability to manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and resources while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Client relationship management: Experience maintaining client relationships, communicating project requirements, managing expectations, and coordinating with external stakeholders.
  • Technical writing skills: Familiarity with preparing technical reports, correspondence, project proposals, work plans, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration: Ability to work effectively with professionals from different technical backgrounds and coordinate contributions toward shared project objectives.
  • Leadership and mentorship: Willingness to provide technical direction, share expertise, and support the professional growth of junior colleagues.
  • Professional registration: Eligibility for registration with, or membership in good standing of, a relevant professional organization, such as AIA, ASET, or APEGA, is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence: A valid, unrestricted Class 5 driver's licence is required.
  • Communication and organization: Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Adaptability and initiative: A proactive approach to problem-solving, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Fieldwork readiness: Ability to perform duties involving sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds several times per day. The role may involve frequent outdoor work in hot, cold, rainy, windy, and other challenging weather conditions.
  • Health and safety compliance: Willingness to comply with applicable health and safety requirements, including pre-employment or site-access alcohol and drug testing and driver abstract reviews where required.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation: Hourly pay ranging from CAD 35 to CAD 53, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location.
  • Flexible work arrangements: Remote work opportunities within Alberta, with additional office-based options in Edmonton, Calgary, and Grande Prairie.
  • Meaningful environmental impact: Contribute to projects that protect soil, water, ecosystems, and communities while addressing complex environmental challenges.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration: Work alongside experienced scientists, engineers, field teams, and environmental consultants across a range of technical disciplines.
  • Professional development: Opportunities to strengthen project management skills, expand technical expertise, and pursue ongoing career development.
  • Leadership opportunities: Gain experience coordinating project teams, managing client relationships, and mentoring junior professionals.
  • Career growth: Build a long-term career within an environmental consulting environment that values technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Inclusive workplace: Join an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, accessibility, and providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process.
  • Health and safety focus: Work within an established health and safety framework designed to support safe and responsible project delivery.
