Job Description
Summary: To provide quality customer service by directing and supervising the activities of all Deli Department personnel to achieve the sales and profit goals established for the department; to maintain and operate the Deli Department in an efficient manner within store policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must be able to work variable shifts
- Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner consistent with store safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all department personnel are trained in the store’s method of performing department activities.
- Follows approved Deli department plans for effective space management based on product movement, consumer demand, and on profitability.
- Monitors the receiving and unloading of Deli merchandise to:
- Ensure that deli receiving accurately reflects the items and counts listed on vendor invoices
- Ensure accurate billing and pricing
- Check products to confirm quality, count, and condition
- Enforce receiving procedures according to store policy
- Orders and maintains inventory to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover to maximize sales and minimize out-of-stocks or overstocks
- Ensures that refrigerated cases and other displays are stocked and properly faced at all times in accordance with department standards.
- Plans and displays merchandise in an attractive, neat and colorful manner
- Ensures that perishable merchandise is rotated in accordance with department policies and product code dates.
- Ensures that all signs and prices are maintained accurate and are correctly positioned over each respective product.
- Handles damaged and spoiled products according to department procedures and assists in controlling the level of damage goods.
- Ensures Front End (POS) accuracy and integrity.
- Monitors and enforces a regular and effective housekeeping and sanitation program that meets the standards established by the department and all applicable health regulations.
- Evaluates and reacts to performance issues and actively recruits as necessary. Executes performance appraisals, supports a counseling program and training of new employees.
- Participates in training activities to increase personal skill level, to improve overall department processes and customer service
- Meets the physical requirement to perform the job functions listed above.
Education/Experience
- High school education is a minimum requirement, including some college courses.
- Should have at least three years of experience in Deli Department operations
- Be thoroughly familiar with all products carried in the Deli Department.
