Sterling Industries is a fast-growing North American based contract manufacturer and assembler of medical devices and sub-components. We help clients deliver successful products by providing scaled production, design-for-manufacturing expertise, supplier consolidation and other critical value chain services.
Position Objective
The Engineering Co-op student will support the Design Engineering team in the development and commercialization of medical devices and related technologies. The role includes product design support, prototyping, testing, documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support projects from concept through production.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Assist in the development of product concepts, 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorksSupport prototype builds, testing, and evaluation activitiesParticipate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviewsAssist with engineering change documentation, BOM updates, and technical file preparationSupport verification and validation activities including fixture development and test executionCollaborate with QA, Operations, Supply Chain, and Project Management teamsAssist in technical documentation including drawings, work instructions, and reportsParticipate in engineering meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project reviews

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical, Industrial, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplineStrong interest in medical device product development and designHands-on and self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software is preferred3D printing experience is an assetKnowledge of engineering drawings and prototyping is an assetExperience in a manufacturing or regulated environment is considered an asset
