We are currently seeking an experienced Transportation and Community Planner in our Philadelphia, PA office. The successful candidate will help us grow our planning and communication practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as support the growth of our planning practice nationally through strong leadership, mentoring, and the ability to thoughtfully collaborate with WRA staff and stakeholders.

Assignments may include leading the pursuit and delivery of a variety of transportation planning, community planning, and communication projects for municipalities, counties, and state agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and supporting studies and planning efforts, drafting reports
  • Providing analysis on feasibility, cost effectiveness, and regulatory conformance of plans and special projects
  • Meeting with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus and obtain project approvals
  • Assisting clients with the development of policy and regulatory changes
  • Identifying planning strategies and assessing scenarios
  • Working with internal WRA colleagues to provide GIS-based data analysis and developing collateral materials that illustrate data in a user-friendly manner
  • Facilitating public meetings/public involvement efforts, documenting meetings, and presenting information to clients and their boards regarding the outcomes and recommendations
  • Working independently as well as part of a multi-discipline team to advance project goals and objectives
  • Mentoring staff
  • Preparing proposals, developing work plans, and coordinating planning efforts to support project management

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • AICP certification or ability to obtain AICP certification within one year of date of hire
  • Minimum of 16 years of advanced relevant transportation planning work experience
  • Experience working with Municipalities, Counties, MPO’s or DOTs on transportation and community policies and planning
  • Experience with federal funding and grant applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state, and metropolitan transportation and community policies and initiatives
  • Innovative, detail-oriented, and experienced in highly visible projects
  • Capable of managing multiple, high-priority assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to ability to resolve problems in a professional manner
  • Ability to provide effective and efficient project management with a proven ability to meet established deadlines
  • Knowledge of and aptitude for computer software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Internet applications
