POSITION TITLE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECH
DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
REPORTS TO: NETWORK ENGINEER
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Information technology specialists work in positions using computer-based information systems. They work with both software applications and computer hardware.
Responsibilities include (1) providing network support. This support ranges from network issues to local end user support; including local computer, server, and network device connectivity, and equipment issues. Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing network systems and Internet systems or a segment of a network system. Perform network maintenance to ensure networks operate correctly with minimal interruptions. (2) End user and system support; including local computers, server software and configurations, accounts, applications and software. Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate new and existing software and applications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
- Administrative Active Directory maintenance ranging from user account creation, group policies changes, general password resets, account status, and Active Directory security audits.
- Set and maintain network access permissions. Creation and maintenance of Network share folders.
- Monitor and maintain backup activities and offloading of all enterprise data for offsite storage and storage rotation.
- Analyze network data to determine network usage, disk space availability, or server function.
- Configure and define parameters for installation or testing of local area network (LAN), routers, switches, controllers, multiplexers, or related networking equipment.
- Configure security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals.
- Configure local area network (LAN) routers or related equipment.
- Document network support activities.
- Evaluate local area network (LAN) or performance data to ensure sufficient availability or speed, to identify network problems, or for disaster recovery purposes.
- Identify the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment.
- Troubleshoot network or connectivity problems for users or user groups.
- Install and configure wireless networking equipment.
- Install network software, including security or firewall software
- Install new hardware or software systems or components, ensuring integration with existing network systems.
- Perform routine maintenance or standard repairs to networking components or equipment.
- Test computer software or hardware, using standard diagnostic testing equipment and procedures.
- Provide telephone support related to networking or connectivity issues.
- Research hardware or software products to meet technical networking or security needs.
- Test repaired items to ensure proper operation.
- Train users in procedures related to network applications software or related systems.
- Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components.
- Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
- Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
- Gather data pertaining to company needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
- Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
- Research new technology, and implement it or recommend its implementation while concentrating on cutting costs.
- Work with high level programming languages for custom solutions and in-house need driven projects.
- Administrative maintenance for Microsoft SQL Servers and associated databases
- Work with vendors for products, services, and warranties.

- Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings — Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.

- Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment
- Understanding of Enterprise level networks – Network communication devices, network communication protocol
- Research and investigate of new and existing issues, problems, solutions, and potential projects
- Knowledge and basic experience with higher level programming languages.
- An understanding of software development.
- Database administrative maintenance for Microsoft SQL - implementing new releases, completing maintenance requirement, evaluating server operating systems and hardware configurations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum 8 years experience in work-related skill, knowledge and on the job training is required.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge required.
