Job Description

Project Planner – Surface Projects Execution

Report to: Project Controls Director

Department: Project Control

Location: Santa Cruz Copper Project, Santa Cruz, AZ

About Ivanhoe Electric Inc.

We are a United States-domiciled minerals exploration company with a focus on developing mines from mineral deposits principally located in the United States. We seek to support American supply chain independence by finding and delivering copper and other critical metals vital to advanced manufacturing, infrastructure development, technology, and national security. We use our powerful Typhoon™ geophysical surveying system, together with advanced data analytics provided by our 94.3%-owned subsidiary, Computational Geosciences Inc. (“CGI”), to accelerate and de-risk the mineral exploration process as we seek to discover new deposits of critical metals that may otherwise be undetectable with traditional exploration technologies. We believe the United States is significantly underexplored and has the potential to yield major new discoveries of critical metals. Our mineral exploration efforts focus on copper and other metals, including nickel, cobalt, platinum group elements, gold, and silver. By advancing our portfolio of critical metals exploration projects, headlined by the Santa Cruz Copper Project in Arizona, we intend to contribute to domestic supply by developing resources that support industrial and strategic sectors. We also operate a 50/50 joint venture with Saudi Arabian Mining Company ("Maaden") to explore for minerals on ~48,500 km2 of underexplored Arabian Shield in Saudi Arabia. Finally, in 2024, we established an exploration alliance with BHP Mineral Resources Inc. (“BHP”), a subsidiary of BHP Group Limited, to search for critical minerals in the United States.

Job Summary:

Ivanhoe Electric is advancing the Santa Cruz Copper Project into the execution phase using an Integrated Project Execution Team. Engineering partners, vendors, and contractors will develop detailed schedules for their designated scopes, which must be validated, consolidated, and incorporated into a coherent execution plan within our Primavera P6 (PPM) Master Schedule, aligning with the approved baseline. This role is responsible for ensuring that the Surfaces Projects are properly developed in the Master Schedule for the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. The individual schedules are to be optimized and escalated for deviations and issues as required in the master project schedule.

The Project Scheduler/Planner is responsible for consolidating, validating, and maintaining the Surface Project schedules beyond Level 3. The role provides schedule integrity, execution visibility, and forward-looking analysis to Engineering (Process, Electrical and Civil) and Construction leadership. Schedule recommendations and scenario analyses are to be submitted directly to the Surface Engineering teams and the Director of Construction, who approves outcomes for incorporation into the master schedule.

Skills and Experience Required:

Surface Execution and Safety Integration

  • Ensure surface development schedule(s) reflect realistic sequencing, permitting constraints, and safety-critical activities.
  • Coordinate alignment with the underground planner for mine development and link to the process facilities, utilities readiness, and execution logic.

Schedule Consolidation (+L3)

  • Consolidate execution partner schedules, possibly developed in other tools, into Primavera P6.
  • Maintain detailed L3+ activities, including integration of engineering, procurement, vendor, construction and commissioning schedules.
  • Validate logic and milestone integrity, calendars, constraints, and coding before accepting the schedule.

Progress Measurement and Forecasting

  • Lead schedule update meetings and deal directly with partners – contractors to ensure the latest schedules are being issued.
  • Coordinate regular schedule updates, using physical percent complete using rules of credit, prepare forecast for remaining activities for execution and analyze late delivery outcomes by teams within project scope.
  • Compare contractor-reported progress, P6 logic, and field observations.
  • Identify schedule risks, logic conflicts, and emerging execution trends impacting surface project development.

Look-Ahead Planning and Reporting

  • Produce three-week look-ahead and look-back schedules to support surface project execution.
  • Support the development of project-focused dashboards (in Power BI) and critical path summaries for Engineering and Construction leadership.
  • Highlight impacts of deviations from any individual subproject, performance issues affecting delivery, potential resource availability issues, and changes in the sequencing of the work.

Interfaces and Decision Support

  • Work closely with Engineering teams, execution partners, and Construction Leadership to evaluate sequencing options and optimize execution scenarios.
  • Provide validated schedule inputs to integrate into the Master Schedule.
  • Provide analysis on progress and mitigation plans for deviations.
  • Work in collaboration with the Underground project team for interfaces between projects.
  • Support the Surface Project Manager with schedule-driven analysis for execution decisions.
  • Report functionally to the Senior Program Planner for schedule structure, framework, and strategies for updating the schedule in the Surface project scope.

Systems and Information Management

  • Maintain scheduling data in Primavera P6 (PPM) in accordance with project standards.
  • Ensure data exchanges from partner – contractor schedules are controlled, traceable, and auditable.
  • Establish an Earned Value system for the work performed throughout the Surfaces project.
  • Support future integration with Microsoft Dynamics - Business Central for an automated approach to reporting progress per contract and other project systems, including Power BI reporting.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Commitment to safety and disciplined execution.
  • Strong communication skills with different levels of authority to ensure schedule buy-in and actions are taken appropriately.
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in Planning & Scheduling for engineering, procurement, and construction, with particular attention to civil works and processing plants in the mining industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of Primavera P6 & MS Project scheduling tools in multi-partner and contractor environments.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and understanding of the engineering and procurement cycles for copper mining.
  • Ability to interpret development designs and partner/contractor schedules.
  • Proven ability to identify flawed logic, unrealistic durations, and execution risk embedded in schedules.
  • Facilitate problem-solving when deviations arise and propose comprehensive solutions.
  • Background in mining engineering, civil or process engineering, or construction management is preferred.
  • Experience in owner-led delivery environments with multiple execution partners in an integrated team approach.

Work Pattern

  • Site-based at Santa Cruz project office and site presence at the mine site on an as-required basis.
  • Partial remote work can be considered.
