Director, R&D Finance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, R&D Finance based in United States.

This is a high-impact leadership role at the intersection of finance, product strategy, and R&D investment planning. You will partner closely with senior engineering and product leaders to evaluate where and how to allocate resources across a complex product portfolio. The role focuses on building strong financial frameworks that guide long-term planning, ROI analysis, and investment decisions across multiple product areas. You will translate strategic product direction into clear financial models that help leadership understand trade-offs, growth opportunities, and efficiency levers. Operating in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, you will also shape scenario planning and support critical decisions that influence product development and company growth. This position is ideal for a finance leader who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys connecting deep analytical work with strategic business impact.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead R&D financial planning, including forecasting, long-range planning (LRP), and scenario modeling to support strategic investment decisions across the product portfolio.
  • Develop and standardize ROI frameworks to evaluate product initiatives, feature investments, and new launches, ensuring alignment between financial outcomes and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with R&D leadership to assess product performance, identify investment opportunities, and optimize allocation of engineering and product resources.
  • Build and maintain advanced financial models supporting business cases, pricing analysis, unit economics, and ad-hoc strategic initiatives, including M&A scenarios when required.
  • Provide executive-ready insights by translating complex financial data into clear recommendations that guide decision-making at the VP and senior leadership level.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to identify growth levers, margin optimization opportunities, and cost efficiency improvements.
  • Lead and develop a team of financial analysts, ensuring strong execution, professional growth, and consistent delivery of high-quality financial insights.
Requirements:
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or strategic finance roles within technology, SaaS, or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong expertise in financial modeling, including revenue forecasting, COGS analysis, pricing impact modeling, and evaluation of product and platform business cases.
  • Proven ability to evaluate product investments using customer adoption data, unit economics, and ROI-based decision frameworks.
  • Advanced business acumen with a demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive data-driven strategic decisions.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, evolving environments with multiple priorities and cross-functional dependencies.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly to executive audiences (VP level and above).
  • Proficiency with financial planning tools such as Anaplan and experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Strong leadership capability, including experience managing or mentoring high-performing finance teams.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, bonus eligibility, and potential equity participation
  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement savings plan (401k) with employer contributions
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and parental leave
  • Remote-first work flexibility with occasional travel for collaboration and team engagement
  • Professional development opportunities and access to learning resources
  • Wellness programs and additional support for employee well-being
  • Inclusive, global work environment focused on collaboration and continuous learning
