Principal Project Engineer - Hardware

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Project Engineer - Hardware based in the United States.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to drive the successful delivery of advanced embedded hardware and space electronics projects in a highly collaborative environment. You will bridge technical execution and project management, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex engineering solutions that meet demanding performance, quality, and schedule objectives. Working closely with engineers, stakeholders, and leadership, you will influence project strategy while fostering continuous improvement and agile delivery practices. The role combines hands-on technical understanding with strong organizational leadership, making it ideal for professionals who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges while guiding projects from concept through completion.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of complex hardware engineering projects from initial concept through final delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define project scope, schedules, milestones, resource plans, and technical deliverables.
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, timelines, and key performance indicators while proactively identifying and mitigating project risks.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring quality, compliance, and engineering best practices.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove project obstacles, and promote collaboration across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Prepare and present project updates, technical reports, and status reviews for stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing engineering processes, development methodologies, and project execution practices.
  • Contribute to successful hardware development efforts involving embedded systems, PCB design, hardware bring-up, electronics manufacturing, and space-qualified technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline with at least 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 7 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in project engineering, technical program management, or engineering project leadership.
  • Strong understanding of PCB design, embedded hardware development, hardware bring-up, and electronics manufacturing processes.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles, systems development lifecycles, and project management methodologies.
  • Experience using project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, AutoCAD, or comparable platforms.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional technical teams while balancing competing priorities and delivery objectives.
  • PMP, Professional Engineer (PE), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certifications are considered strong advantages.
  • Previous experience delivering space-qualified hardware or aerospace electronic systems is highly desirable.
  • Willingness to travel or support off-site activities as business needs require.
