Job Description
Education Outreach Specialist
Job Summary
The Education Outreach Specialist develops, coordinates, and delivers education and outreach programs to healthcare professionals, community organizations, and target populations within a defined region. The role blends clinical knowledge with public health and business principles to improve access to care, promote preventative services, and support population health goals.
Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
Education & Training
- Develop, adapt, and deliver evidence-based educational sessions for clinicians, allied health professionals, hospital, clinic and community partners.
- Create culturally and linguistically appropriate curricula and materials.
- Facilitate continuing education (CE) events, grand rounds, webinars, and in-service training.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute organizational events from concept through completion, including venue selection, budgeting, vendor management, logistics, attendee communications, and on-site event support to ensure a seamless and professional experience.
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, clinics, school systems, faith-based organizations, and community-based organizations.
- Represent the organization professionally at health fairs, conferences, and outreach events.
- Assess community needs and identify gaps in services; collaborate on program design to address them.
Clinical Collaboration
- Serve as a clinical liaison to translate health guidelines into practice changes for regional providers.
- Support care coordination and referral pathways to improve patient outcomes.
- Stay current with clinical standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements relevant to the region.
Program Management
- Plan, implement, and evaluate outreach initiatives, campaigns, and pilot projects.
- Monitor program metrics (reach, engagement, referrals, knowledge gains) and prepare regular reports for leadership.
- Manage partnerships, contracts, budgets, and vendor relations as needed.
Data & Compliance
- Collect and analyze data to measure program impact; ensure data quality and privacy compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of trainings, attendance, and participant outcomes.
- Ensure materials meet accessibility standards, applicable laws (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.), and Shannon branding and quality standards.
Advocacy & Health Equity
- Promote health equity by addressing social determinants of health and reducing disparities in access to care.
- Advocate for community needs in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong oral and written communication; ability to simplify complex medical information for diverse audiences.
- Public speaking and workshop facilitation skills
- Project management, organization, and time management abilities.
- Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in core software (Microsoft Office, Zoom/WEBEX, learning management systems) and data collections tools.
- Demonstrate initiative and ownership by independently identifying priorities, solving problems, and driving tasks to completion with minimal supervision.
Performance Indicators
- Number and quality of trainings delivered; participant satisfaction and knowledge gains.
- Reach and engagement metrics (events, attendees, partnerships).
- Improvement in referral rates and care coordination indicators.
- Compliance with data privacy, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Progress toward regional health outcomes and equity goals.
- This role may include regional travel with occasional evenings/weekends, fieldwork, outdoor activities, and exposure to noise and varying weather. Community-based settings, clinics, hospitals, and event venues.

Qualifications
Education
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree in: Business, Communication, Education, Public Health, Nursing, Health Education, Social Work, or a related field
- Preferred
- Master’s degree in: Business, Communication, Education, Public Health, Nursing, Health Education, Social Work, or a related field
Experience:
- Required
- 3-5 years in health education, community outreach, public health, or clinical settings with demonstrated success in program development and stakeholder engagement
- Working understanding of common healthcare delivery models, chronic disease management, preventative services, and patient education strategies
- Preferred
- Experience working in underserved communities or with social determinants of health initiatives
- Knowledge of health literacy best practices and adult learning principles
- Experience with evaluation design (logic models, surveys, focus groups) and program involvement
Certification/Licensure:
- Required
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Preferred
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
