Head of Data & AI

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Data & AI based in United Kingdom.

As the Head of Data & AI, you will lead the strategic vision and execution of a unified data organization spanning Data Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Quantitative Analytics, and Business Intelligence. In this leadership role, you will shape scalable data platforms, drive AI innovation, and build high-performing teams that transform complex data into measurable business value. Working at the intersection of engineering, analytics, and emerging AI technologies, you'll define technical roadmaps, establish best practices, and collaborate with senior stakeholders to support business growth. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced data leader to influence both technology strategy and organizational direction in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Accountabilities
  • Define and execute the overall Data & AI strategy, aligning data engineering, analytics, quantitative research, and AI initiatives with long-term business objectives.
  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams while establishing technical standards, career development frameworks, and a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Design and evolve scalable, reliable, and secure data platform architectures, overseeing ETL/ELT pipelines, real-time data processing, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Drive the development and implementation of AI and Large Language Model (LLM) solutions, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, intelligent automation, and semantic search capabilities.
  • Establish best practices for Data Engineering, MLOps, and LLMOps, including CI/CD, model versioning, monitoring, observability, prompt management, and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure high standards for data quality, governance, security, compliance, and responsible AI practices, including fairness, explainability, and regulatory alignment.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate strategic challenges into data-driven solutions, delivering executive dashboards, advanced analytics, experimentation frameworks, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Optimize technology selection, infrastructure performance, and cloud resource utilization while managing platform scalability and operational efficiency.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience across Data Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, Quantitative Analytics, and Data Analytics, delivering end-to-end data solutions.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience managing technical data teams and driving organizational growth.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong programming expertise in Python and experience building production-grade data and machine learning applications.
  • Deep understanding of software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, testing, clean architecture, code reviews, and DevOps principles.
  • Extensive experience with machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, quantitative analysis, and frameworks such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Proven expertise with SQL, analytical databases, OLAP technologies, and modern data platform architectures.
  • Strong experience defining AI strategies, implementing LLM-powered applications, and working with vector databases, embedding models, and AI governance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills with the ability to align technical initiatives with business priorities.
  • Professional proficiency in English. Experience in fintech, trading, fraud detection, risk modeling, portfolio analytics, or enterprise LLM integration is considered an advantage.
