Instructional Systems Designer (ISD)
Position Summary
The Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality learning solutions that support enterprise software platforms, business operations, and technology-driven programs. This role combines instructional design expertise with modern learning technologies, multimedia production, and artificial intelligence (AI) to rapidly create engaging, scalable training solutions that accelerate user adoption and improve operational performance.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable conducting a needs assessment with subject matter experts, developing interactive eLearning modules, producing instructional videos, facilitating live virtual instruction, and leveraging AI-enabled tools to dramatically reduce development timelines while maintaining exceptional instructional quality.
This position is ideal for a highly creative, technology-driven instructional designer who enjoys building innovative learning experiences in a fast-paced environment where products and operational requirements evolve rapidly.
Position Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Instructional Design
Design and develop comprehensive learning solutions using adult learning principles and modern instructional design methodologies. Partner with stakeholders to identify performance gaps, define learning objectives, and translate complex technical and operational concepts into practical, learner-centered training experiences.
Rapid Content Development
Develop and maintain engaging learning products using rapid authoring technologies and AI-assisted development tools, including:
- Interactive eLearning modules
- Software simulations and walkthroughs
- Scenario-based learning exercises
- Microlearning content
- Knowledge assessments
- Digital job aids and performance support tools
- Interactive reference materials
Maintain an agile development approach that allows new or updated training to be produced quickly in response to evolving software features and business needs.
Multimedia Production
Create professional multimedia learning assets, including:
- Instructional videos
- Screen capture demonstrations
- Motion graphics
- Voice-over narration
- Interactive presentations
- Infographics
- Visual process maps
- Short-form learning content for mobile delivery
Instructor-Led Training
Design and support synchronous learning experiences, including:
- Virtual instructor-led training (VILT)
- Classroom instruction
- Workshops
- Train-the-Trainer programs
- Executive briefings
- Product demonstrations
Develop all supporting instructor materials, participant guides, exercises, and evaluation tools.
Learning Technology
Leverage emerging technologies to improve instructional quality and development efficiency.
Utilize technologies such as:
- AI-assisted content creation
- Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Rapid authoring platforms
- Video editing software
- Graphic design applications
- Collaboration platforms
- Learning analytics tools
Continuously evaluate new technologies that improve learner engagement and reduce course development time.
Learning Analytics & Continuous Improvement
Measure the effectiveness of learning programs by monitoring:
- Course completion
- Learner engagement
- Assessment performance
- Knowledge retention
- User adoption
- Training effectiveness
Use learner feedback and performance data to continuously improve instructional content and learning outcomes.
Collaboration
Work closely with software developers, product managers, business analysts, operational subject matter experts, and executive leadership to ensure training content remains accurate, current, and aligned with organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, or a related field.
- Five (5) or more years of professional instructional design experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing both asynchronous and synchronous learning solutions.
- Experience producing multimedia learning content and interactive eLearning.
- Experience utilizing AI-enabled tools to improve instructional design and content development.
- Excellent written communication, visual communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise software implementations or digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience working within government, public safety, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience with SCORM, xAPI, and Learning Management Systems.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG.
- Experience with Agile project management methodologies.
