Position Summary:
TheDepartment of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences within the University of NewMexico School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented MedicalPractice Specialist (MPS) to support the department's continued clinical,financial, and operational growth. Ophthalmology is an expanding academicdepartment with increasing clinical volume, faculty recruitment, activeresearch programs, and a robust residency program. This position will providededicated operational expertise to strengthen clinical workflows, optimizeModernizing Medicine (ModMed), improve revenue integrity, enhance physicianproductivity reporting, and support documentation and compliance across thedepartment.
TheMPS will serve as a strategic operational partner to departmental leadership,faculty, clinical staff, UNMMG, University Hospital, and other keystakeholders. The position will establish clear ownership of practiceoperations and serve as the department's primary resource for ModMed workflowdevelopment, process creation and standardization, productivity reporting,documentation integrity, and revenue cycle optimization. The role will helpensure that clinical workflows, documentation, charge capture, coding, anddownstream billing processes are aligned and consistently executed.
KeyResponsibilities
Thisposition offers an opportunity to play a critical role in the continued growthof the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The MPS will helpestablish the operational infrastructure necessary to support expandingclinical services, faculty growth, new workflows, and the department'scontinued investment in ModMed. The position will work closely withdepartmental leadership and clinical partners to translate data and operationalfindings into standardized, sustainable processes that improve financial performance,compliance, provider confidence, and patient care operations.

KeyResponsibilities
- ModMed Optimization & Workflow Standardization: Develop, implement, and continuously improve specialty-specific ModMed workflows, templates, visit types, attestations, and processes to support efficient clinical operations, accurate documentation, and appropriate charge capture.
- Revenue Cycle & Revenue Integrity: Monitor and improve charge capture, denials, write-offs, non-billable encounters, documentation-related revenue loss, and other revenue cycle opportunities in collaboration with UNMMG and University Hospital.
- Physician Productivity & Data Integrity: Develop, validate, and distribute recurring and ad hoc productivity reports; reconcile wRVU and encounter discrepancies; and establish reliable prospective processes to improve the accuracy and credibility of physician productivity data.
- Documentation & Compliance: Support standardized documentation, teaching physician attestations, coding practices, and clinical workflows to improve compliance, reimbursement, and reporting accuracy.
- Provider & Staff Education: Provide ongoing education and training to faculty, residents, technicians, scribes, schedulers, and clinical support staff regarding ModMed workflows, documentation requirements, charge capture, and processes that directly impact billing, productivity, and compliance.
- Cross-System Coordination: Coordinate workflows and reconciliation efforts across ModMed, UNMH, UNMMG, and other clinical systems and serve as a liaison between departmental leadership, clinical teams, coding, billing, and revenue cycle partners.
- Operational Process Development: Create and standardize operating procedures and workflows, identify process gaps, implement sustainable solutions, and monitor outcomes to support continuous operational improvement.
- Clinical Practice Operations: Identify opportunities to improve clinical efficiency, patient workflows, premium service processes, ancillary revenue capture, and coordination with external clinical partners.
- Data Analysis & Strategic Support: Collect, analyze, interpret, and present operational, financial, productivity, and revenue cycle data to support departmental decision-making and strategic planning.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to reduce preventable denials, write-offs, non-billable activity, documentation deficiencies, and administrative burden while improving revenue capture and operational performance.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success improving revenue cycle, revenue integrity, productivity, or clinical practice operations within an outpatient medical practice; experience in Ophthalmology is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize complex operational, financial, productivity, or revenue cycle data and develop data-driven recommendations that resulted in measurable improvements in efficiency, productivity, revenue, or practice performance.
- Demonstrated success developing, standardizing, or optimizing a clinical or revenue cycle workflow, with measurable improvement in efficiency, accuracy, patient access, revenue capture, compliance, or provider/staff adoption.
- Demonstrated success leading or coordinating a multidisciplinary operational improvement initiative involving physicians, clinical staff, administrative staff, coding, billing, and/or revenue cycle stakeholders within an academic medical or similarly complex healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated experience using an electronic medical record and practice management system to identify and resolve operational, documentation, charge capture, scheduling, or revenue cycle opportunities and implement sustainable improvements; experience with Modernizing Medicine (ModMed) is strongly preferred.
