Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Data Engineer in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to shape the core data infrastructure powering advanced AI-driven energy optimization technologies. You will define the technical direction of a high-scale data platform that supports real-time intelligence, orchestration, and analytics for complex energy systems and AI workloads. Acting as both a hands-on engineer and technical leader, you will guide architecture decisions across ingestion, transformation, storage, and data serving layers. The position requires close collaboration with data scientists, platform engineers, and product stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, production-grade systems. You will play a key role in improving reliability, observability, and performance across distributed data pipelines. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence platform architecture while mentoring engineers in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment.
- Define and lead the architecture of end-to-end data systems, including ingestion pipelines, transformation layers, orchestration frameworks, and data models.
- Develop and maintain the multi-quarter technical roadmap for the data platform, balancing innovation, reliability, and technical debt reduction.
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines supporting both batch and streaming processing at enterprise scale.
- Lead architecture reviews and technical design discussions, ensuring clarity, documentation, and alignment across engineering teams.
- Translate complex data infrastructure challenges into actionable engineering plans and clear technical requirements.
- Partner with data science and cross-functional teams to identify dependencies, prioritize improvements, and enable efficient ML and analytics workflows.
- Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, data validation, schema evolution, and pipeline reliability.
- Ensure production-grade reliability of data systems through observability, instrumentation, and defined SLAs for data quality and freshness.
- Mentor and support engineers by providing technical guidance, code reviews, and opportunities for skill development.
- Drive evaluation and adoption of modern data tools and platforms aligned with long-term architectural strategy.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, including at least 2+ years in a principal or staff-level technical leadership role.
- Proven experience designing and operating large-scale end-to-end data platforms across ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers.
- Deep expertise in batch and streaming data pipeline architectures and associated trade-offs.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, storage systems, and distributed data processing frameworks.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals with the ability to define technical standards and evaluate code quality.
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and their ecosystem services.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction, mentor engineers, and drive alignment without formal authority.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with modern data tooling, observability systems, or ML data pipelines is a plus.
- Competitive base salary between $170,000 and $210,000 depending on experience
- Equity and stock option participation
- Fully remote work anywhere within the United States
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) plan with employer matching
- Flexible paid time off and supportive work-life balance
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI and energy infrastructure systems
- Inclusive, mission-driven, and highly collaborative engineering culture
- Strong emphasis on mentorship, growth, and technical excellence
