This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced database professional to lead the reliability, modernization, and optimization of large-scale enterprise data platforms in a fully remote environment. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership across hybrid infrastructures, including mainframe, cloud, and on-premises systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring the performance, scalability, and security of mission-critical databases while driving modernization initiatives and automation efforts. Working closely with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams, you will help shape resilient and cost-effective data solutions that support complex operational environments. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in high-impact environments, enjoys solving advanced technical challenges, and values collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.

Accountabilities:
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise databases across Db2 (z/OS & LUW), SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and AWS cloud environments, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Lead database modernization and migration initiatives, including cloud adoption, schema transformation, and hybrid infrastructure optimization.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, replication, failover, and business continuity strategies across both cloud and on-premises platforms.
  • Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, workload balancing, and capacity planning for high-throughput transactional and analytical systems.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code and automation solutions using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Python, Bash, PowerShell, and JCL/REXX.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to support compliance, vulnerability remediation, audit readiness, and operational governance.
  • Develop observability frameworks, dashboards, and alerting systems to proactively monitor database health, latency, and service reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and DBAs, establish operational best practices, and contribute to architectural and strategic technical decisions.
Requirements:
  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in enterprise database administration across Db2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Strong expertise with IBM mainframe technologies including z/OS, TSO/ISPF, JCL, Db2 utilities, RACF/TSS, and performance analysis tools.
  • Hands-on experience managing AWS database services such as RDS, Aurora, EC2-hosted databases, CloudWatch, IAM, and storage optimization.
  • Advanced skills in database performance tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, partitioning, replication, and high availability architecture.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, REXX, and infrastructure-as-code technologies.
  • Solid understanding of security, compliance, and governance practices including encryption, RBAC, auditing, SOX, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD database deployment processes and DevOps-oriented operational models.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and incident leadership skills in complex enterprise environments.
  • Preferred qualifications include relevant AWS, IBM Db2, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft database certifications, along with exposure to observability platforms, ETL tooling, and modern data ecosystems.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work arrangement within the United States.
  • Competitive salary range of approximately $129,813 – $155,250 annually, depending on experience and location.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions.
  • Paid time off, holidays, parental leave, sick leave, and personal leave programs.
  • Flexible work schedule designed to support work-life balance.
  • Career growth opportunities supported by internal mobility programs and AI-powered career development tools.
  • Access to professional training, certifications, and continuous learning resources.
  • Wellness programs, disability coverage, life insurance, and additional employee assistance resources.
  • Collaborative, innovation-driven culture with strong support for professional advancement and mentorship.
