Job Title: Calibration Technician

Department: AL QC2 (Quality Alabama)

Reports to: Quality Sr. Manager

FLSA Status: Salary Non-Exempt

Purpose:

Gage Calibration technician maintain, test and repair a variety of gages, instrumentation and equipment. Their primary job is to make sure that instruments, gages and testing devices are calibrated correctly and give accurate readings for Brake Machining.




Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

  • Perform calibration, evaluation and repair (if necessary) of gages and equipment
  • Documentation and storage of gage inspection and calibration results
  • Data entry, storage, archiving and maintenance of gage calibration program (GMES)
  • Develop all reports and certificates pertaining to calibration.
  • Formulate calibration standards: Plan sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment, according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications.
  • Reporting and reacting to gage inspection and calibration results
  • Maintenance of gage specifications, prints, logs, and manuals
  • Maintenance and inventory of gage supplies and gage cabinets
  • Adherence to laboratory housekeeping and safety requirements
  • Segregation and identification of rejected gages
  • Manage repair and calibration of assessment tools and measurement of equipment inclusive of general purpose.
  • Administer all calibration methods and procedures.
  • Coordinate with production and engineering departments for internal and external calibrations.
  • Assist various departments to resolve and repair of equipment which determine precision.
  • Special tests and duties including but not limited to:
  • Gage R&R studies, Calibration of internal gages, Compliance to TS 16949 & IATF, Adherence to laboratory housekeeping and safety requirements

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree required or higher required.
  • Candidates with experience in Machining plants and precision measurement are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Blueprint reading and understanding.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and other information in order to complete calibration procedures
  • GAUGE R&R
  • Some knowledge of technical standards for calibration by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).
  • Strong attention to detail needs to works well with others (QA, QE, PD, PE, etc.)
  • Ability to follow procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Legal Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to federal labor law requirements.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Working Conditions:

  • Constant work at Metrology Lab and occasional manufacturing floor work.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, moving machinery, and energized equipment.
  • Rare exposure to dust and chemicals.
  • Constant exposure to material flow and narrow aisles.
  • Rare exposure to uneven surfaces.
  • Constant use of PPE (safety shoes).
  • Occasional use of PPE (safety glasses and earplugs).
  • Occasional use of computer and Function gauge equipment.
  • Frequent to occasional weekends/OT.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent sitting.
  • Rare bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Constant use of force & handling, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequent fine motor & dexterity: gripping, pinching, tool use, and keyboarding.
  • Constant sensory demands: vision (near/far, depth, color), hearing/speech, smell (as relevant to safety).

Remote Work: Not eligible for hybrid or remote work.
