Essential Responsibilities

As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide direct care, supervision, and community-based support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide transportation to medical appointments, benefit and financial appointments, housing-related appointments, community activities, educational programs, and religious services.
  • Support individuals in home and community settings with daily routines and activities.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
  • Administer medications in accordance with agency policies and training requirements.
  • Assist in implementing Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and supporting individual goals and outcomes.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals receiving services.
  • Document services accurately and complete all required paperwork, including:
    • Progress notes
    • Daily logs
    • Medication records
    • Schedules
    • Assessment forms
    • Medical appointment forms
    • Vehicle logs
    • Expense reports
    • Time records
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinators and interdisciplinary team members to ensure individual needs are met.
  • Provide support during emergencies and participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assist with special projects and program-related initiatives as needed.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and supportive environment that encourages personal growth, independence, and community participation.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Access to a reliable, insured vehicle suitable for travel between service locations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to provide hands-on assistance and physical support when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six months to one year of experience in a human services, caregiving, healthcare, education, or related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of person-centered supports and community-based services.
