Job Description

Right in the heart of State College, PA you will find the newest entertainment destination. Happy Valley Casino has taken over in The Nittany Mall, bringing the area it’s first ever gaming facility! With two dining options, cocktail service, 30+ table games and over 1,000 slot machines, we are sure to be the number one entertainment destination in The Happy Valley!

We are currently seeking talented individuals to join our team that will provide State College with the best customer service and gaming experience possible! Our current opening is for a Sous Chef. This position will report directly to the Executive Chef, and will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Executive Chef in the daily operation of the kitchen, including communicating daily needs, requirements, and expectations to Culinary, Team Cafeteria, and Stewarding staff.
  • Coordinating the production of à la carte menu items and partnering with the Executive Chef to ensure food quality meets established menu and plating specifications.
  • Training, preparing, and cooking alongside culinary team members to support effective operation of all hot and cold line stations.
  • Assisting with menu item preparation while maintaining workstation inventories, high-cost product controls, par levels, and period-end inventory counts.
  • Assigning and communicating detailed duties to culinary staff, as directed by the Executive Chef, to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
  • Inspecting, selecting, and utilizing the freshest and highest-quality ingredients, including fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and poultry, while maintaining food cost objectives.
  • Effectively communicating and collaborating with all Food and Beverage team members.
  • Ensuring production and stewarding operations comply with all local and state health department regulations and standards.
  • Recommending and documenting disciplinary actions, as appropriate, in accordance with company policies.
  • Promoting exceptional guest service and outstanding customer relations.
  • Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


The successful candidate for this role will possess the following:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Culinary School degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of food preparation experience, with prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods of 6–8+ hours.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment while maintaining quality and attention to detail.

Casino employees may be required to obtain a Pennsylvania Gaming License. Cost of license is covered by Happy Valley Casino.
