The Senior Server-Side Engineer will design, develop, and operate scalable backend platforms and shared infrastructure while driving technical excellence across engineering teams.
- Design and build internal platform services and shared infrastructure that enable engineering teams to deliver products efficiently.
- Architect high-throughput, low-latency backend systems capable of supporting significant traffic volumes with predictable performance.
- Develop event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing platforms, and durable data pipelines.
- Create scalable caching, rate-limiting, and request-management systems to improve reliability and performance.
- Build platform abstractions, SDKs, and reusable libraries that help teams adopt consistent engineering practices.
- Establish observability standards, service-level objectives, and capacity planning processes for critical services.
- Design multi-region and fault-tolerant systems with strong focus on availability, resilience, and graceful failure handling.
- Lead investigations into complex production issues, perform post-incident analysis, and implement long-term improvements.
- Define engineering standards around APIs, schemas, deployments, and backward compatibility.
- Optimize platform performance through profiling, benchmarking, and data-driven improvements.
- Partner with infrastructure, security, and reliability teams to ensure platforms meet operational and security requirements.
- Mentor engineers, contribute to architectural discussions, and promote strong engineering practices across teams.
- Create technical documentation, design proposals, operational guides, and decision records.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and open-source solutions to identify opportunities for platform improvements.
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced backend or platform engineer with strong distributed systems knowledge and a passion for building reliable, scalable infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 6+ years of professional experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, or distributed systems development.
- Proven experience building and operating internal platforms or shared services used by multiple engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, consistency, availability, latency, and failure handling.
- Advanced proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++.
- Experience designing high-throughput messaging, streaming, and event-driven systems using technologies such as Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS.
- Strong knowledge of data storage technologies across relational databases, key-value stores, document databases, and search systems.
- Experience leading complex, multi-quarter engineering initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create technical documentation and explain architectural trade-offs.
- Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes-based platforms, internal developer platforms, service mesh technologies, or workflow orchestration is a plus.
- Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects, technical writing, or community involvement are advantageous.
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring new employer-sponsored visa support.
- Competitive annual salary range of $100,000–$150,000.
