Position Summary

The Social Media Coordinator supports the day-to-day management of GMF’s digital channels, including social media and website publishing.

This role serves as the primary owner of day-to-day social media channel execution, ensuring consistent, high-quality content across platforms and alignment with GMF’s voice and standards.

The coordinator plays a key operational role in implementing GMF’s digital communications strategy—translating institutional priorities into clear, timely, and well-executed content across channels. The role works under the strategic direction of the Manager, Digital Communications.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Channel Management (Execution-Level Ownership)

  • Lead the day-to-day management of GMF’s social media channels, including drafting, scheduling, and publishing content across platforms (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Bluesky, and others)
  • Serve as the primary owner of channel execution, ensuring consistency in voice, timing, and content presentation
  • Apply platform-specific best practices to optimize content performance and audience engagement
  • Monitor real-time trends and engagement to inform day-to-day content decisions

Content Publishing & Website Management

  • Publish and update content on gmfus.org (articles, publications, event pages, staff updates)
  • Ensure accuracy, formatting, and consistency across all web content
  • Coordinate timing and alignment of web and social content for major releases

Coordination & Workflow Management

  • Manage incoming digital communications requests and track deadlines
  • Coordinate approvals with editorial, program teams, and communications leadership
  • Maintain publishing calendars and ensure timely execution of planned content
  • Serve as a key point of contact for program teams on social and web requests

Digital Content Support

  • Assist in formatting and preparing reports, newsletters, and other digital products
  • Create basic visual assets (social graphics, simple video clips, templates) as needed
  • Collaborate with multimedia staff on more advanced visual content

Analytics & Optimization

  • Track social media and web performance metrics and identify day-to-day optimization opportunities
  • Flag high-performing content, trends, and engagement insights to the digital team
  • Implement channel-level improvements based on data and team guidance, in alignment with broader strategy

Strategy Implementation

  • Execute social media campaigns, editorial priorities, and messaging direction
  • Ensure all content aligns with GMF’s institutional voice, priorities, and communications standards
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international relations, or related field
  • ~1–3 years of relevant experience in social media, digital communications, or content publishing
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, accessible content
  • Experience managing social media platforms and publishing/management tools (e.g., Sprout, Buffer)
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe Suite preferred
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workflows simultaneously
  • Interest in international affairs and public policy strongly preferred
