Financial Counselor - Contract/Consulting opportunity in Naperville, Illinois at United Health Partners PLLC

This is not a full time position. It will be a short term consulting opportunity.

The Financial Counselor is responsible for supporting patients and care teams in addressing financial barriers related to medications, treatments, and healthcare services. This role operates within the Care Management function and collaborates closely with Providers, Care Managers, and Pharmacists to ensure patients can access and adhere to prescribed care plans.

The Financial Counselor plays a critical role in resolving issues related to insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, and financial assistance, while improving overall patient access, continuity of care, and outcomes.

· Assess patient-specific financial barriers related to medications, medical supplies, and treatment plans.

· Provide guidance on co-pays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket expenses.

· Support patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and available options.

· Review and verify insurance benefits related to prescribed therapies and services.

· Identify and address coverage limitations, formulary restrictions, and prior authorization requirements.

· Coordinate with payers, pharmacies, and providers to resolve access issues impacting patient care.

· Identify appropriate financial assistance resources, including manufacturer programs, grants, and other support mechanisms.

· Facilitate patient enrollment into assistance programs and monitor progress through completion.

· Maintain awareness of available financial resources and eligibility criteria.

· Understanding of financial assistance relating to drug (pharmacy/medical channels).

· Collaborate with Care Managers and Providers as part of the care delivery workflow, including participation in virtual visits when appropriate.

· Receive escalations from clinical staff regarding patient financial concerns and provide timely resolution.

· Support both medication-related needs and broader healthcare financial concerns, including durable medical equipment and wound care supplies.

· Document all patient interactions, interventions, and outcomes in the designated system(s).

· Track financial interventions and resolution outcomes to support operational visibility.

· Identify recurring barriers and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

· Supports patients across multiple service lines, including medication management and clinical care programs.

· Addresses financial barriers impacting access to medications, supplies, and prescribed treatments.

· Works cross-functionally with clinical, operational, and administrative teams.

· Understanding of financial assistance relating to drug (pharmacy/medical channels) and how to problem solve for financial assistance via multiple channels is required.

· Experience in healthcare financial counseling, patient access, case management, or a related field.

· Knowledge of insurance benefits, reimbursement processes, and medication access pathways.

· Familiarity with financial assistance programs and patient support resources.

· Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary care team.
