Cashier Lead (Non-Exempt)Department: Retail Staff
Reports to: Front End Manager

Transaction Execution & Cash HandlingReports to: Front End Manager
Role Summary
Provides operational supervision for the front end during assigned shifts. Performs all Cashier duties while serving as the primary escalation point for transaction issues, cash discrepancies, customer concerns, and front-end workflow decisions. Responsible for cash control, POS accuracy, cashier direction, and completion of opening or closing procedures. Essential ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service
- Greet and assist customers with a professional, solution-oriented approach from beginning to end of each transaction. Answer questions regarding products, promotions, store services, and rewards programs.Promote participation in the Rewards Program (AppCard) by requesting phone number entry for every transaction, enrolling new members, and explaining program benefits, including Business Rewards.Maintain professional conduct, including adherence to dress code and electronic device restrictions.Resolve customer complaints, returns, rental transactions, and complex service issues; de-escalate conflicts and determine appropriate resolution within company policy.Answer and direct incoming calls appropriately.
- Scan and process all items accurately; apply paid stickers as required and ensure all merchandise leaving the lane is verified as paid. Accurately process all forms of tender (cash, credit, debit, EBT); count change back to customers and verify receipts.Inspect bills for counterfeits using visual review and approved tools; refuse to accept counterfeit bills and partner with Manager on Duty as needed.Authorize and process Cashier requests for voids, overrides, discounts, suspended transactions, and tax exemptions; require a clear reason for each request before approving.For price check requests, verify pricing on the shelf or in BR Data before approving an override; communicate confirmed discrepancies to the POS Clerk.Collect un-priced or "not found" items; complete the POS Not Found Sheet accurately and communicate items to the POS team. Ensure "open department" entries are used appropriately and accurately.Follow company discount procedures, including compliance with Employee Purchase Policy; verify identification when required.
Safety, Security, & Loss Prevention
- Keep register areas clean, organized, and fully stocked with operational supplies.Identify and report hazards, equipment issues, or register malfunctions immediately.Consistently follow all loss prevention procedures, including proper paid sticker use, duplicate receipt placement when applicable, and secure handling of cash pickups.Comply with all RAMP regulations at the Beer Garden, including identification verification for every customer and refusing sale to visibly intoxicated individuals.
Front-End Supervision
- Maintain consistent floor presence to monitor lane flow, customer service standards, and cashier performance; office time is limited to required cash and reporting functions.Make in-the-moment operational decisions impacting front-end flow when higher management is not immediately present.Assign and prioritize cashier tasks based on operational needs, including break coverage, front-end production items (such as bottle caps, popcorn bags, etc.), rental rack maintenance, and daily support tasks. Manage meal and break compliance, including minor labor law adherence.Monitor cashier compliance with company policies and address performance issues in real time; escalate ongoing concerns to the Front End Manager.Communicate scheduling needs, operational issues, performance concerns, and store awareness updates to the Front End Manager in a timely manner.Maintain beer garden merchandising standards including stocking, facing, product rotation, and confirming proper POS tagging.Relay management directives and team communications to cashiers as assigned.
- Train new cashiers and provide ongoing coaching to reinforce accuracy, service standards, and policy compliance.
Cash Control Procedures
- Count tills at shift start and end; reconcile safe totals, petty cash, lottery funds, Coinstar totals, and related cash assets according to store procedure. Maintain direct accountability for front-end cash accuracy during assigned shift.Process cash pickups and provide change securely.Open and/or close front-end systems and confirm completion of all required closing procedures; prepare or verify deposit components as assigned.Investigate discrepancies by recounting tills, safe, and deposit components; document and communicate findings to the Front End Manager promptly.
Qualifications
- Prior cashier or front-end retail experience required; lead or supervisory experience preferred.Proven accuracy in cash handling and reconciliation.Ability to direct others, prioritize tasks, and remain composed under pressure.Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment within defined authority limits.
Part-time or full-time hourly role. Schedule varies and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Overtime must be pre-approved by the Store Manager. All time must be recorded accurately in accordance with company procedures.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work is performed in a grocery retail environment and requires sustained mobility throughout the store and backroom. The role involves frequent standing and walking, regular bending, reaching, and crouching, and periodic pushing and pulling of carts and other wheeled equipment. Must be able to handle and reposition product and store materials as needed to perform essential functions and respond to operational issues. Work may include exposure to temperature variation and entering cooler or freezer areas as needed. Physical demands vary by store conditions, task frequency, load characteristics, and the availability of mechanical aids, and should be performed using safe work practices.
