Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

At Culton Companies, we don't just build things — we build experiences. From museum installations to jaw-dropping tradeshow exhibits, our work shows up in the most memorable spaces in the world. And it all starts right here in Birmingham, Alabama, inside our 250,000 sq ft facility where every single project is conceived, designed, fabricated, and shipped under one roof.

Our CNC team is the backbone of that magic. If you love the satisfying precision of a clean cut, the challenge of working with diverse materials, and the pride of seeing your work become part of something truly impressive — this role was made for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Operate our Onsrud M-Series 5×12 CNC router to produce precision parts and custom components
  • Work with a wide variety of materials including plywood, MDF, solid surface, acrylics, and specialty plastics
  • Handle manual nesting and toolpathing as well as automated batch cutting programs
  • Set up tooling, work offsets, and verify programs before every cut
  • Monitor machine operation and dial in feeds/speeds to hit quality targets
  • Inspect finished parts with a sharp eye for accuracy, quality, and finish standards
  • Troubleshoot machining or material issues and keep things moving
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe CNC work area
  • Perform routine machine cleaning and light preventative maintenance
  • Collaborate daily with fellow CNC operators and our fabrication crew

WHAT YOU BRING

Required:

  • Proven hands-on experience operating a CNC router in a production or custom fabrication environment
  • Experience cutting sheet goods and plastics — you know how materials behave and how to get the best out of them
  • Solid understanding of safe shop and machining practices, CNC setup procedures, tooling selection, and fixturing/hold-down methods
  • Ability to read shop drawings and job documentation accurately
  • Strong communication skills — you can talk shop with project managers and production staff alike
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a real commitment to quality and hitting deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently while staying plugged into the team

Bonus Points For:

  • Background in custom millwork, exhibit fabrication, or specialty shop environments
  • Experience cutting acrylics, plastics, or solid surface materials
  • Eagerness to cross-train and expand your skills across other shop areas

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

  • Full-time, hourly position
  • Flexible scheduling available — afternoon/evening shift preferred
  • Overtime opportunities available based on production workload
  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a shop environment
  • Able to lift and handle sheet goods (team lifts available as needed)
  • Comfortable in a fabrication shop environment — noise, dust, and all
  • PPE required: hearing protection, safety glasses, and appropriate footwear
