Work Location: Concord, CA (Fully Onsite, no remote)
Employment Details: Full time, Exempt
Compensation: $105-120k/year
About the role: We are searching for an Accounting Manager for our Accounting Department. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all SHELTER, Inc. accounts payable, accruals, general ledger account analysis and reconciliations. Responsible for processing and maintaining prepaid expenses, property accounting, and foundation and donation revenue. Assists with month-end close and the preparation of monthly financial reporting for multiple entities. This role has 2 direct reports, a Senior Accountant and Accountant I.

What you’ll do:
- Managing staff responsible for performing the accounts payable, property accounting, and general ledger functions
- Following agency procedures for compliance; coding and processing invoices including: distinguishing appropriate accounting period; determining agency, grant or department allocation; ensuring proper G/L account coding and classification of prepaid expenses
- Manages check runs for agency, and its subsidiaries as needed
- Prepares monthly and yearly accruals and adjustments for the accounting cycle
- Reviews the accounts payable aging identifying issues and resolving in a timely manner
- Ensures compliance with the corporate credit card policy by cardholders
- Oversees the general ledger accountants and assists with analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing journal entries
- Responsible for property accounting and oversight including revenue accruals, reconciliation of tenant accounts, and ensuring reserves are fully funded
- Ensures that foundation and donation revenues are recorded in accordance with GAAP and reconciles with Donor Perfect
- Manages 1099 reporting for various SHELTER, Inc. entities and resolving any issues
- Assists with the annual financial audit and tax reporting by providing accurate documentation according to established deadlines
- Other projects as requested
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field is required.
- 5+ progressive experience in Accounting with a demonstrated track record of taking on increasing responsibility.
- At least 2 years management or supervisory experience.
- Proficient using large ERP systems, tools (Sage Intacct highly desirable) and advanced Excel capabilities to enhance accounting processes, reporting, and analytics in large and dynamic organization.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Key Proficiencies you'll need:
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal. Must be comfortable communicating with management across all divisions regarding cost allocations, account variances, invoice approvals, etc.
- Must be highly organized, detail oriented, analytical, self-motivated and possess a team attitude.
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure, plan and problem solve.
- Must possess a willingness to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job and agency.
- Quality control - demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Demonstrated capacity to maintain highest standards of confidentiality with all records, including organizational and individual information.
Position Requirements:
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check
- Must provide TB test clearance
