Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons focused on animal science, biology and environmental education.
- Adapt instruction to meet the developmental needs of students across grades K-8.
- Incorporate hands-on learning experiences, including observation, interaction, and inquiry-based activities.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate animal lab experiences into broader curriculum goals.
Classroom Management & Supervision
- Support a positive, respectful classroom environment aligned with school expectations.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, centers, transitions, recess, lunch, and dismissal.
- Promote social-emotional development, helping students learn skills such as cooperation, problem-solving, and self-regulation.
Daily Classroom Operations
- Assist with classroom organization, set-up, and clean-up throughout the day.
- Prepare materials for lessons, projects, and learning stations.
- Support routines such as attendance, folders, snack time, rest time, and bathroom breaks.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment.
Student Support
- Provide individualized attention to students who need extra help academically or behaviorally.
- Encourage positive behavior and model appropriate social skills.
- Build warm, supportive relationships with children and families.
Communication & Collaboration
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to understand daily expectations and priorities.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow school policies at all times.
- Attend staff meetings or professional development sessions as requested.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor/administrator.
Requirements:Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field preferred.
- Experience working with children in grades K-8
- Experience handling and caring for a variety of animals (e.g., small mammals, reptiles, birds, aquatic species)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a genuine love for working with children.
- Ability to follow direction, take initiative, and work collaboratively with staff.
