Job Description
Operates, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices, including electronic transmitting and receiving equipment (e.g., radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, and navigational aids); personal and mainframe computers and terminals; industrial, measuring, and controlling equipment; and industrial robotic devices. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles to determine equipment malfunctions and applies technical skills to restore equipment operations.
Applies technical knowledge to perform simple or routine O&M tasks in accordance with detailed instructions. Performs tasks such as operating electronic instrumentation equipment; replacing components and wiring circuits; repairing simple electronic equipment; and taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.
Receives technical guidance, as required, from a supervisor or higher-level technician. Work is spot-checked for accuracy. Work includes associated cross-utilization into other jobs, as required. May require overtime and weekend work.
Demonstrates satisfactory skill and good performance with three years of progressive work experience in the particular field, or graduation from a two-year resident course at a technical institute.
A valid state driver’s license is required, and employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a security investigation. The selected candidate must also meet all eligibility requirements to work at the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) installation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requirements will involve lifting items up to 75 lbs. Work will be strenuous and requires the installation of cabling beneath computer flooring and numerous equipment moves within a two-story building.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to operate, maintain, repair and install various types of electronic equipment. Able to provide soldering skills and familiar with coaxial/BNC cable crimping procedures.
