Job Description
General Description:
Joins, fabricates and assembles metal and other weldable material by applying various welding techniques. The welder will be able to interpret blueprints, job specifications, diagrams or other schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Must be able to use various hand tools before, during or after the actual welding process to finalize the product.
Job Duties:
- Demonstrate proficiency in specific types of welding such as MIG, TIG, stainless steel and mild steel of varying thickness
- Tac-welds or welds components and assemblies using electric, gas, arc or other welding equipment
- Weld product to blueprint specifications
- Review work orders and blueprints to ensure work is performed according to specifications
- Report discrepancies between blueprints and work orders to group leader or applicable member of management
- Setup, operate, and troubleshoot Cobot welder
- Acts as the lead operator within weld department helping with training, equipment setup, and work assignments for other weld operators
- Identify and understand welding symbols and other written instructions and diagrams to perform specific tasks per product requirements
- Inspect, observe and evaluate welded surfaces and dimensional tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to product specifications and visual appeal
- Will setup, take down, and troubleshoot own equipment in their area
- Develop templates or other work aids to hold and align parts
- Removes rough spots from workpiece using various tools
- Must be detail oriented and show a heightened sense of awareness due to the nature of super-heated material in their work area
- Assist in maintaining production equipment and 5S
- Notify group leader or applicable member of management if a potential part shortage or discrepancy is detected
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
- Resolve and reports welding problems as needed
- Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing tasks given
- Performs other duties as required
Job Skills and Qualifications:
- AWS certification preferred.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and gauges
- Must be safety oriented and observant to their workplace environment
- Must be able to read blueprints and isometric drawings
- Dependable work history
- Works with little guidance or direction
- Must be detail and quality oriented to detect and report potential quality issues (visual and functional) during the welding process
- Able to read/write and speak English to understand verbal and written instructions and document completion of necessary documentation
- Must be reliable with a strong work ethic
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
Physical Abilities/Working Conditions:
- Normal work week is 40 hours; 7am to 3:30pm Monday thru Friday
- Overtime may be required, when necessary
- Regularly lift and/or move products that weigh up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, bend for period of time during an 8 hour shift
- Will be exposed to the following welding conditions during normal job tasks: bright light, sparks, fumes/gases, heat, electrical shock
- PPE is required to safeguard against these conditions
- Job will consist of some bending and twisting
