The Opportunity: Senior Communications Advisor

Three-year term, full-time and based in Whitehorse or Dawson City. Option to be remote within the Yukon for the right candidate.

From strategic communications and media relations to community engagement and digital content, you’ll turn complex energy topics into clear, meaningful stories that inform, engage, and inspire.

What will you do: As a member of the Community Relations team, you will:

  • Develop and deliver strategic communications and marketing strategies that strengthen Yukon Energy’s brand and help Yukoners understand what we do, what we’re planning, and why it matters.
  • Lead and support media relations, including responding to media inquiries, preparing news releases and briefing materials, and supporting crisis and emergency communications.
  • Create clear, compelling content across a variety of channels, including web, social media, presentations, reports, advertising, videos, and internal communications.
  • Support community engagement and public outreach, building strong relationships with communities, customers, stakeholders, media, and partners across the Yukon.
  • Work closely with teams across Yukon Energy to communicate complex energy, project, policy, and industry topics in ways that are timely, relevant, and easy to understand.

What you need to succeed:

  • A degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 5 + years of progressive experience in marketing, corporate communications, community engagement or public relations, preferably in the utilities industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with media and serving as a company spokesperson.
  • Emergency communications experience would be an asset.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, editing, and listening skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, compelling content for a variety of audiences and channels.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, leadership, communities, stakeholders, and the media.
  • A strong understanding of Yukon’s political, social, and economic environment, including local First Nations world views and cultural practices.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
