Job Description

Summary:

The core responsibility of the Systems Design Engineer is to manage complex information at the aircraft system, energy production, and engine system levels. This role requires a strong understanding of system architecture interactions and interdependencies, component functions, and individual design requirements. To be an effective integrator, the candidate must navigate various design phases, requirements management, and risk management with a clear understanding of the data required at each stage. Prior design experience in one or more component areas is highly beneficial, and experience with the testing, verification, and validation of engine or energy production systems is a distinct plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineer change activity (DCCB/CCB). Guide CIPT’s through formal EC review/approval process. Approve changes for system design group.
  • Lead groups through resolution of technical integration and Interface issues as well as trade studies. Assign actions, owners, and drive completion dates.
  • Provide system level design guidance to the team, component groups, and system level support groups.
  • Assist in developing, author system level design documents – Program Management Instructions, Design Input, system level requirements documents, etc.
  • Organize and lead system level design reviews – Develop agenda, template, conduct dry run critique of CIPT/system presenter input. Plan and coordinate meetings with customers when required.
  • Risk management – assist in developing, create & manage risk mitigation plans. Coordinate, review, and critique component group risk mitigation plans. Provide summary reports for programming and customers. Develop and implement risk process improvements.
  • Create statements of work and associated deliverable descriptions, and schedule for completion. Develop and submit quotes for related activities.
  • Manage multiple SOW’s; ability to delegate yet know that activity is progressing on time and within budget.
  • Manage and report SOW deliverables.
  • Provide / Perform technical leadership.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Mentor lower-level engineers.

Requirements (Education & Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering degree required.
  • 8-15 years of experience.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Experience in aerospace industry.
  • Experience with System Architecture and Design of various gas turbine engine components and modules is required.
  • Experience with integrating Aircraft systems, Energy producing systems or similar is desired.
  • Experience with Risk Management and Safety Assurance.
  • Experience in Testing, Verification, and Validation.
  • Prior experience with Requirements Analysis and Management.
  • Prior design experience in one or more engine or aircraft component groups.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams of engineers in resolution of technical issues.
  • Recent experience with Unigraphics NX and Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of Teamcenter.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-site team environment and gather information for projects, hold meetings and professionally communicate both orally and in writing with all departments.
