Job Description

The Support Aide provides the necessary support, resources, supervision and leadership to ensure the provision of one-on-one care to assigned child or children in the centre, in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans of the program, with the philosophy and policies of 1st Class and in strict compliance with the Alberta Childcare Licensing Act.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work specifically with child or children requiring additional support, and provide general assistance as part of the Team
  • Contributes ideas based on thoughtful and insightful knowledge towards planning for children with additional needs.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships and regular communication with parents.
  • Establishes and carries out a daily activity schedule that incorporates child-directed activity, care routines, and transition times.
  • Supervises Child in structured (classroom) and unstructured (free play, hallways, lunch hour, etc.) settings.Ensures that appropriate supervision is maintained at all times.
  • Supports Child to be included in programming and activities.
  • Supports the child with physical and personal care needs.
  • Help prepare materials and assist in other duties as required by the Support Director and location leadership team

  • A commitment to the development, progress and inclusion of children with additional needs

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of a Level 1 - Early Childhood Educator Certificate (or be able to complete within 2 months of hire)
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available for all hours that the program is open and be available to cover shifts within the program.
  • Must have up-to-date Police Clearance (or be able to complete immediately upon hire).
  • Must have a valid CPR and First Aid Certificate (or be able to complete upon hire.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Fast-paced environment.
  • Able to lift to 50 pounds
  • Able to walk, bend, stand, squat or crouch to child’s level.
  • Able to physically respond quickly in an emergency.
  • Part-time hours: up to 25 - 30hrs
