As a Senior Excitation Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority for excitation control systems supporting a global nuclear power fleet.
You will shape modernization, reliability, obsolescence management, and life-extension strategies for critical excitation technologies.
The role combines advanced power electronics and power-system engineering with rigorous nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
You will lead complex technical investigations, including root-cause analysis of high-priority system disturbances affecting nuclear facilities.
Working across engineering, field services, commercial, regulatory, and customer teams, you will provide expert guidance on complex projects and outages.
You will also mentor senior engineering talent and help preserve specialized excitation expertise across the organization.

- Define the long-term technical roadmap for excitation systems across the nuclear fleet, including modernization, digital upgrades, obsolescence management, and life-extension initiatives.
- Serve as the senior technical authority for excitation control technologies, providing expert guidance on systems such as EX2000, EX2100, and EX2100e.
- Ensure excitation system designs, modifications, and engineering activities comply with applicable nuclear regulatory requirements and internal nuclear quality management standards.
- Lead root-cause analyses for complex and high-priority excitation system disturbances, developing solutions that balance plant availability, reliability, and safety-critical stability.
- Direct advanced modeling and simulation activities to evaluate interactions between large-scale nuclear generation, excitation systems, power systems, and evolving grid-code requirements.
- Provide technical consulting and risk guidance to commercial and sales teams supporting major nuclear retrofit opportunities and proposals.
- Lead formal design reviews for new product introductions and customized nuclear applications, ensuring rigorous verification and validation.
- Provide technical guidance to field services teams during installation, commissioning, outages, troubleshooting, and site remediation activities.
- Mentor Staff and Lead Engineers, strengthen technical capabilities, and establish effective documentation and knowledge-preservation practices.
- Support predictive maintenance initiatives and the integration of advanced technologies within regulated nuclear environments.
- Communicate complex technical risks, recommendations, and system impacts clearly to utility executives, customers, regulatory stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; a Master’s degree or PhD is strongly preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in power generation engineering, including 5–8 years focused specifically on excitation systems or mission-critical power plant controls.
- Strong knowledge of synchronous generator theory, excitation systems, power-system stability, and complex power-generation controls.
- Demonstrated experience working within a nuclear safety culture and navigating nuclear-specific quality, regulatory, and documentation requirements.
- Strong systems engineering capabilities, with the ability to lead complex integration efforts spanning excitation controls, generators, plant interfaces, and nuclear operational requirements.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot sophisticated technical problems and lead root-cause investigations in high-pressure environments.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and providing technical direction during outages, emergency remediation, or other critical events.
- Ability to evaluate excitation transients and their broader impact on nuclear island and balance-of-plant systems.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex engineering risks and recommendations to technical, executive, customer, and regulatory audiences.
- Willingness and ability to travel globally up to 25% for outages, customer design reviews, and regulatory audits; remote candidates may travel up to 50%.
- Ability to work with U.S. export-controlled information, subject to applicable government authorization requirements.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Preferred qualifications include 15+ years of power-generation engineering experience and 7–10 years focused on excitation systems or mission-critical controls.
- Industry recognition through participation in IEEE/IEC working groups, nuclear industry forums, or organizations such as NEI or EPRI is advantageous.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and relevant specialized certifications or advanced degrees are preferred.
- Competitive U.S. base salary range of $124,500–$207,700, with actual compensation determined by factors including experience, education, skills, and location.
- Geographic salary differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% may apply in certain locations.
