Cylinder Assistant 2 – Job Duties
Purpose:
Roto-gravure cylinders are used to print all designs on our printing presses. The printing surfaces of these cylinders are fragile and engraved with the design stations needed to produce the proper product. Cylinder Assistant 2 has responsibilities to ensure all cylinders are retrieved from storage in a safe manner and set-up for the press personnel for each upcoming order. When changeovers are complete, the Cylinder Assistant 2 must clean and inspect all cylinders, and safely store all cylinders in the appropriate locations. The Cylinder Assistant 2 must maintain proper inventory levels for all Doctor Blade Assemblies.
Job Responsibilities of the Cylinder Assistant 2Primary Job Duties –
Cleaning, pulling, and racking cylinders for jobs to be produced or just completed. Verifying presses have all cylinders and impression rollers needed to produce orders. Support pressroom as needed
Job Responsibilities of the Cylinder Assistant
- Pull cylinders according to the schedule for upcoming jobs. Should have at least one (1) job per press, pulled ahead of schedule.
- Clean and inspect cylinders from press after completion of use. Report any damage found to supervisor immediately.
- Organizes and maintains a safe and clean department.
- Aid in maintaining accurate location in the racks for cylinders.
- Perform tasks and duties assigned by superiors.
- Prepare and supply impression and furnishing rollers for press use when needed.
- Support pressroom when changeovers occur.
- Assist press with taking out and putting cylinders in.
- Build doctor blades to help ensure adequate supply.
- Uncrate and inspect cylinders that have come back from re-chroming.
- Successful completion of 3rd Operator Press training.
- Must have ability to fill in on Press as 3rd Operator as needed.
- Will participate in press changeovers.
- All other duties as directed by shift supervision that you are qualified for.
Physical Demands Category:
- Standing or walking for entirety of shift (unless driving forklift truck)
- Pulling or pushing cylinders on cart (between 1470 – 2325 lbs. including cart)
- Pulling or pushing cylinders on inspection cart (between 990 – 1845 lbs. including inspection cart)
- Blades, backing blades, blade holders (23 lbs.), 1-gallon pitchers (7 lbs. full), solvent drum (full – 448 lbs. / empty 53 lbs.), skid jack (168 lbs.), finished roll/lead paper (600 – 2100 lbs.), lift tables at in-feed and out-feed on presses 1 & 2 and drive forklift trucks,
- Pulling or pushing impression roller carts (carts 780 lbs., impression rollers 235 lbs., furnishing rollers 42 lbs.)
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Safety glasses with side shields
- Goggles and face shields for work with chemicals that may splash.
- Gloves (appropriate for the hazard of the specific task)
- Gloves (appropriate for the hazard of the specific task) butyl gloves for use with cleaning solvent, M-Pyrol, isobutyl acetate and ethyl acetate or other solvents
- Ear protection (caps, plugs, or muffs as per employee preference) pressroom use.
- Respirators for organic vapors (non-mandatory use when working on press)
- Hoist straps for over-head cranes
- Grounding straps for grounding cylinders and all solvent or liquid containers
- Safety shoes
3rd Shift - Monday - Thursday 8:00PM-6:30AM
Must train on 1st Shift 6:00AM - 4:30PM, up to 90 days
