Position Overview

Be part of myDNA’s expansion within the University of Glasgow’s Clinical Innovation Zone at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus. Supported by a 180-strong global team with over 20 years of expertise across the U.S.A. and Australia, this position puts you at the core of our Pharmacogenomics / MassArray pipeline as we scale end-to-end diagnostic services for major partners like Bupa UK. In this hands-on role, you will execute high-precision molecular genetics assays while keeping our new Glasgow facility running at peak performance through proactive laboratory maintenance, equipment care, and seamless daily administrative management. We are actively seeking two (2) candidates to join our team in this role.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Laboratory Bench Work

  • Using molecular genetic techniques to perform laboratory procedures within the Pharmacogenomics / MassArray pipeline.
  • Using manual laboratory techniques as well as high throughput tools (e.g., automated liquid handing instrumentation) to complete laboratory assays.

Laboratory Instrumentation

  • Working with Agena MassArray and 3730XL Capillary Electrophoresis instrumentation to complete laboratory assays.

Laboratory Administrative Functions

  • Maintaining records, performing sample tracking, and creating assay plate orders.
  • Performing data analysis and reporting procedures.

General Laboratory Maintenance Functions

  • Assisting with reagent preparation, instrument maintenance, assay development, and troubleshooting.
  • Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO 15189:2022 / UKAS standards, biosafety protocols, and UK GDPR/ Data Protection Act 2018.

Position Requirements

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated understanding of general molecular biology principles, with hands-on knowledge of PCR, MassARRAY (MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry), and Capillary Electrophoresis (3730XL) instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO 15189:2022 / UKAS standards, biosafety protocols, and UK GDPR / Data Protection guidelines.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Google Sheets (including navigating complex spreadsheets) and comfort using LIMS tracking systems.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, precision, and thorough documentation in high-throughput environments.
  • Active position requiring stamina to stand and move between lab benches and instruments for the majority of the workday, adhering strictly to PPE and Health & Safety (OH&S) protocols.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a molecular biology, clinical diagnostics, or UKAS-accredited laboratory environment with demonstrated proficiency in molecular techniques and automated liquid handlers.

Education

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Biological Science or related field.
  • HCPC registration or IBMS membership is preferred (or equivalent clinical laboratory experience).

Eligibility

  • Must hold UK Permanent Residency or valid UK Right to Work.
