JOB SUMMARY
As a School Social Worker, you will play a critical role in providing support and guidance to students, families, and staff. With your passion for helping others and your commitment to excellence, you will help make a positive impact on the lives of those in our community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
- Provide individual and group counseling and social skills instruction to a special education population.
- Provide staff and parent training, curriculum development, support of school wide positive behavior support plan and implementation of individualized education plans and student goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement intervention strategies to address social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create comprehensive support plans for students.
- Facilitate communication between the school and students' families to ensure cohesive support.
- Coordinate with external agencies and community resources to provide additional services to students.
- Create and lead workshops or training sessions for students, staff, and parents.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Promote attendance and engagement through targeted interventions.
- Address issues related to bullying, substance abuse, and other challenges affecting student well-being.
- Supports the growth and development of the department through a high level of collaboration with all members of the department team and through a high level of focus on the needs of the individual department
- Maintains records and reports, and complete frequent progress monitoring that are required by the school, state and/or federal regulations
- Support school teams in collection, analysis, and utilization of data-based decision making
- Finds solutions, performs child safety checks; facilitates parent involvement in school activities
- Responds to questions using a constructive, supportive, and positive tone
- Attends department and school meetings as requested
- Possess an extensive knowledge of a variety of forms of intervention and prevention models for both individuals and group settings
- Possess a thorough understanding of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics
- Keeps informed on regulations and laws applicable to all phases of student guidance, mental health, juvenile justice, military service, and education code
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to physically respond to student behaviors, including but not limited to; bend, squat, stretch, reach, follow students, or other approved physical interventions
- Must be able to implement and perform Safe Crisis Management techniques to respond to student behaviors.
Expected Hours/ Shift Type: This is a 10-month, full-time position with a fixed schedule Monday through Friday. Occasional evenings, weekend, or on-call hours may be required. The ability to maintain punctual and reliable attendance is critical to this position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in Social Work or related field.
- State certification or licensure as a School Social Worker.
- Experience working in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and educational laws.
- Strong understanding of children and adolescent development.
- Familiarity with common social, emotional, and behavioral challenges faced by students.
- Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in a school or youth-focused setting.
- Strong assessment and evaluation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in practice.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Awareness of Trauma informed programming.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification.
- High level of organization.
- An appreciation and understanding of instructional technology.
- Ability to maintain a positive and constructive attitude under stressful situations.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
- Computer and technology literacy: Operate office equipment including a calculator, copier, computer and assigned software.
- Google docs, Google spreadsheets and other online collaboration tools to send and receive information

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
All employees of Valley Day School must obtain and submit to the school the appropriate clearances before their first day of employment. These documents include, but are not limited to: PA Criminal Record Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Registration Information, DPW Child Abuse Clearance, Act 168 form for present and past employment history, etc.
